It’s all relative though Mull old boy. If we’re suddenly counting Scottish Lower League football as relevant we may as well start including junior football which brings TAM into the equation should he be interested. Could it be that Bowyer has tried using Blackpool as leverage for a better deal at Dundee and it hasn’t worked. Sadler has sussed it out hence Matt‘s very rapid response putting the rumour to bed. We had enough of that last year.

I'd be more inclined to think that would be more the case with Wellens. Bowyer has stated that he wants a job closer to home and would be stupid to resign if he didn't have anything lined up.

No. Bowyer had a huge falling out with Dundee’s mental owner and also fell out with Gordon Strachan (who for some reason is there as Director of Football)

It's nowhere near the same standard, there is a semi professional football club in the Scottish Championship with part time players and they finished 3rd from bottom, actually surviving. You put a semi professional club in League One and they wouldn't even get into double figures.

It was the way the club rushed to quash that particular rumour ( I presume that’s where Scrafton’s info came from). He could be after a job elsewhere. Maybe Wigan, they must be due a new manager. Or the other end of the M55😀.
If they were to do that with all the rumours they’d have no time left to appoint a new manager.
Of course it could be that they just didn’t want to put their real target off so moved quickly to dispel that rumour.
 
Well I for one would love to see a Dobbie Bowyer “Double Act”.
Dobbie has done well although Birmingham & Norwich we’re “On The Beach”
However, he’s showed he can motivate and get players believing even when the are already relegated as a club.
Gary Bower older head and totally professional.

With a full closed season to prepare.

Oh sorry, didn’t realise managers had to be born from an egg on a mountain top. I thought they were mortal human beings who walk among us, have decent playing careers, do their coaching badges, take youth/reserve teams then get promoted … y’know, like Dobbie?

Your argument doesn't stack up as long as they have been coaching er like Critchley everyone needs to start somewhere and the third division is a brilliant starting point.

Schumacher at Plymouth who has never be a manager has just got them promoted so just give the gig to Dobbie and stop all this we need experience shite.

Having a username as you do, I'd actually thought that you may have some!!!

Everyone has to start somewhere and as stated in other replies we, and other clubs have had success with "rookie" managers.
 
What really shouldnt happen is a four year contract for Dobbie...by all means giving him a short term deal to prove himself and then firm it up six months in if he has done well..perhaps a one plus one at first and then renegotiate...I guess we are still paying Appleton after that absolute shit show and that is laughable

The same with McKenna at Ipswich. Sometimes you need young uns with fresh ideas not these old dinosaurs on the managerial merry go round. I reckon Dobbie would be the perfect choice with an experienced bloke to help him.

Vast TV money helps in the prem, but the majority of the big clubs are at the top. Helps if you have a benefactor too.

However it's pretty obvious that a club getting 30k vs a club getting 10k can afford better players and is more likely to get success, all things being equal. Unless there's a very rich benefactor willing to lose millions to make up some of the gap, even then it's not always sustainable and you have to be within ffp.

Of course there's recruitment, the manager, pressure etc, it's not a guarantee but generally, if not completely mismanaged, it's a big advantage.

If we had 30k ST holders imagine the players we could afford...

If Simon appoints someone other than Dobbie he's in for pelters if it turns out to be another failure. Fans will be saying "Why didn't you give the job to Dobbie in the first place?"

You know these 4-year contracts have break clauses in them, don't you?

Appleton had a 4-year contract, but wouldn't have walked away with 4 years pay, probably more like 6 months would be my guess.

I’m not sure that was the case at all with Applehead..it was totally unnecessary to sign him up for 4 years…who was coming in for him Man Utd??

Course there were break clauses.

The 4 year contract protects clubs from a poach. The break clauses allow them to get rid if they need.

Alan Pardew was given a 6 year deal at newcastle but in reality it wasnt a six year commitment by the club.

Its the same with most commercial leases it might be a 50 year lease but there are break clauses.
