Bristol City v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 07.08.21

Midfield looking very weak. Giving away too much possession. Defensively not as good as last season.

Massively missing Stewart and Dougall in the middle.

Is it me or is this ref a bit of a homer giving them everything.

Outclassed so far. We're miles off where we need to be unfortunately. Hope the players we need come in soon.

Not sure what james offers in midfield and John- jules when he was outside box should have had a shot.

Still in it but they do look good (might be saying that every week!!).

Come on pool..

Any balls to cj have been awful either blasting it way beyond him or at him, no finesse.

Hard to tell on the crap quality im watching on.

We look very weak in midfield, predictably. Were not turning passing at the back into much through the midfield.

Lack of a RB was so obvious going into this season and the defence thats never really played together doesn't fill me with confidence.

But until right near the end we were in the game, such a poor goal to concede.

Not seeing any amazing quality from Bristol, but we've taken that pre season like football into this really, hopefully that changes soon.

The thing is, their not doing anything brilliantly either, just seem faster and stronger. The way Palmer for them is going in on our right-back is eye-watering, even though he's mostly got the ball when he slides in he'd be in danger of a red in the PL.

Poor from Connolly again and he is certainly not a right back. Critch thinks he is, but he is wrong. We need one ASAP. Keogh has been average and Hubby looks like he is missing a Ballard or Marv alongside him. The sooner we get Marv & Get back in the first X! the better.

Anderson just flatters to deceive for me. He isn't a creative midfielder, that's for sure and I'm not sure where he is best suited. We are missing Dougall & Stewart and a creative midfielder who can feed Yates, CJ & JJ as those 3 look really dangerous but aren't getting the service.

We were the best team for 20 minutes but they have stepped it up and probably deserve their goal advantage.

The defence and midfield is lacking in what we had last season, mainly due to injuries. I would be looking to put Marv on for Keogh & Carey on for Anderson. The front 3 are fine but I'm sure Lavery will get 15 minutes for one of them.

It's early days, I think we could all see where the problems might be and the first 45 minutes has highlighted that.

Connolly is poor positionally and has been so slow in possession. At fault for the goal, just letting his man run free. Amazed we did not get the RB spot sorted.

Generally we are second to the ball and a yard of the pace. I think that will come, just part of the learning curve.

Bearing in mind the starting line-up and absentees, it has probably gone as well as it could. If we can just find the right pass we could nick a goal.

Every forward ball is flung out to the right to try to find Hamilton. Invariably he doesn't get to it.
I haven't seen 1 chance he could properly run at them.

He played on the left all pre season now he's on the right.

But the balls to him have been pretty awful.

I don't think we are out of this but we need to find Hamilton with at least one pass although Hamilton looks a little bit slow off the mark.
I agree that the game has passed Reece by.
Connolly can easily become everyone's whipping boy but it wasn't just him to blame for their goal.
Not sure how we can improve mid-field with what we have available. It might be worth throwing Antwi on for James.
Lavery needs to come on soon and maybe swap Hamilton for Bowler.
UTMP

We look a bit disjointed so far. Personally would change Connolly for epki. And go three at the back. James looks a bit light weight. Would-be tempted to change him for lavery and do a three five two.

Definitely not outclassed. Midfield has been weak, but obviously better players to come in in due course (not much help today though that). Thought TJJ did alright so far, looks like he could be quite decent. Right back is a big worry because the defending for the goal was rubbish. 45 minutes to go, better performance required but I can still see us getting something from this

Any cross put over over centre halves from either flank is not being dealt with properly by our full backs.
And Greenall is showing his bias in favour of us. They were the only team looking likely.
As I was saying.
