Bristol Rovers v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 20.01.23

I try not to be reactionary on here, but tomorrow really does feel like the biggest game of our season.

All season we've had questions about our 1) Consistency 2) Away Form and both of those questions will be posed to us tomorrow.

If we successfully answer them, we will have won three straight league games, something we have not done all year.

A win would also give us our first away win since November...

Just a gigantic game for the confidence of the squad going forward into the business end of the season. Don't think we've needed a win this bad in a loooong time.

COME ON THE POOL.

This will be a tough game, they pushed Norwich all the way in the FA Cup replay and are a team playing with confidence. I was impressed with the right wing-back Luke Thomas at Bloomfield Road and whoever plays at left wing-back Coulson or Lyons will have to be on their game. I agree though we have to be positive and put our stamp on the game right from the kick-off.

Issue is it should not be a defining game
We have thrown away far too many points. Maybe next season will be ours

Some on here thought we were far superior to Bristol Rovers when we played them the other week at Bloomers. Tomorrow will prove them right or wrong!

Exactly, fight like uck, if they outplay us fair enough

The game today isn't a season defining one for us, in my opinion, but it will give a further insight into whether Critchley can adapt this very talented squad of players, to overcome one of the best teams in this division. I think that Wednesday's game against Forest showed that take the hand brake off, play the right players with the right formation, and we have a promotion winning team. The time is now for Critch to show us has he the qualities to truly manage or is he really just a talented coach, full stop.

Agreed this game doesn't define the season. Even a defeat (God forbid) doesn't mean we can't reach the playoffs, but we mustn't read too much into Wednesday's game as no side in this league plays the way Forest do. Horses for courses and all that. The more I see of us the more I think we're not running on our favourite course!

This game is only the most important game for the team and Critch from the perspective, it is the game right here, right now. Like every game, a win will enhance our prospects and a loss will produce the usual meltdown on here. A draw? With both teams playing midweek both sets of players will be feeling it but from what I can glean, BR do not have as good a squad depth as we do. A far from easy task today but cautiously optimistic we can get something, whatever the team selection is.

That's what the likes of Portsmouth have been saying for years. We have a very strong squad for this division. One that is more than capable of getting promoted. We need to make the most of it and forget about the 'next season will be our year' attitude as this league often has other ideas for clubs our size and bigger.

Today isn’t going to be a season defining game, but I’d be disappointed if we lost.
A draw is just about acceptable for me, but I want to see the team play with the confidence and intent that they showed against Forest … because that will seal three points.

Hope we’re not too leggy after that extra time.

I predict we’ll get a point, but if we show even half of what we did on Wednesday, then we can get all three.

Joseph to score today. UTMP.

Agree with its not season defining... but lose in the manner like Burton.. port Vale etc with the same team tactics etc then I think it is as he won't change. But I'm hoping after wed it has made him realise our best play is to attack and let the players express themselves... guess starting 11 will give us a clue. 🤞it's the right team

The formation will once again prove a problem and not just the individual players. Not a bad lineup though and defence looks stronger minus Gabriel but he must leggy after Wednesday.

I would guess Lyons is injured, we would have wanted him on the bench at the very least?

I would still prefer Gabriel over CJ, but other than that, not bad.

For me no excuses today, its a team that most would of picked bar the odd one, so down to the players, and remember Critchley can't
make decisions for them or make them play well when they cross that white line

He can create the mindset before they cross the white line.

Decent side in my opinion. Hope not too much hangover from Wednesday night.
On another note, the Memorial Stadium is a bit of a brutal reminder of our current league status 😬
