I'm currently with Virgin at £34 per month for 250 mbs. They now want £57, and eventually came down to £49, but no further.

Has anybody come across any better deals?

Ollygon…I was on £36 and like you they wanted to hike it…anyway I managed to get a further 18 months at £37…

This has just reminded me of that company who used to sponsor us, who said they were going to roll out 1gb internet to thr club and the wider areas.

Nothing ever seemed to come of it and they stopped sponsoring.

Just been on their site, yayzi, still no real coverage I can see.

Its a shame as they offered 1 gb for 29 a month and no setup costs.

I wonder what they were waiting for that they expected to happen? Surely it wasn't the digging up of all the roads as that's a huge job.

Anyway this isn't really of much help to the thread, but seemed a shame as they were a local based company about to take on the big boys and help the club, plus local people.

Don’t get me started on Virgin 😡

They did the same to us. Against our better judgment we agreed to a different package for the same price but when we came to fix the new gizmo it didn’t work. After numerous attempts via the phone to get some assistance (literally over an hour being passed from pillar to post and left on hold) we decided to cancel after all.

The only problem is they make that virtually impossible as well, so we ended up sending a formal letter snail Mail but registered post. One arm of Virgin seems to have finally agreed we’ve cancelled while another arm keeps telling us our last bill is overdue and they’re sending us another one!

Totally and utterly inept and incompetent!!! 😖 😤 😡

High Fibre with BT got it couple months ago 29.99pm for 2yrs

Be aware that the £29.99 ‘introductory price’ is not fixed for the duration of the contract. A check of the small print shows it is subject to BT’s annual price incease policy, which is the rate of inflation + 3.9%, implemented on 31st March each year.

This year the rate of inflation was 10.5%, meaning that the cost rose by 14.4% from 1st April.

Similar I wanted to cancel tv, landline and keep the 250mb internet package only currently advertised for £30 a month on a 24 month contract for new customers only. I suggested they should be able to match this for a loyal customer but the best they could offer on the initial call was £47 per month, still a saving on the £71 they wanted for all 3 services but nowhere near what they advertise for new customers, so i cancelled with the standard 30 days notice period. The retentions team started ringing the next morning but i have ignored them for a week , when i took the call they can now offer an 18 months broadband only contract for £22 a month which unsuprisingly i have taken.

It is worth the hassle of leaving and then ignoring them for a while as a £49 a month saving is better than i expected.

Whatever they offer you decline it, cancel and give your months notice, if you don't actually want to leave you can always phone them back before the cut off date and stay with them. They will phone you back within a few days 100% and offer you a much better deal, they will only try a couple of times though so make sure you don't miss their call.

They have two teams for retentions, inbound and outbound, the inbound team are fairly limited on what they can offer you, the outbound team aren't. They will probably kick off the conversation with "what can I do today to keep you as a customer".

if you can afford to wait a few months the Gigabit rollout from City Fibre should be available for the whole of Blackpool and looking at Yayzi are one company who provide to the areas already covered you will be able to get far better speeds for less than Virgin are offering,

can see a lot of people making the change once this goes live.

But current offer 27.95 PM.
Just seen on TV ad
I've got sky at half price for 19.75 18 months, ok for me

UK residents are being massively ripped off for piss poor broadband packages. To compare... I'm in Thailand, a relatively 3rd world country, and I get 1gb fibre to the house for less than 15 quid a month.

The UK is expensive, but it isn't all profiteering, a lot of it is debt. The UK was an early leader in doing DSL connections over older wiring and ISDN lines, which required a lot of investment at the time. Don't forget this was in the late 90's/early 00's. The whole customer-base of BT at the time paid for that upgrade through their bills, and we're still paying for it today, even as the next generation of fibre became available. This suppressed investment, and fibre has only really got going in the UK in the last 5 years.

Compare to other countries which didn't do any DSL/POTS investment, and leapfrogged over that straight to fibre. Thailand is a great example, so is most of Eastern Europe. They benefitted from massively reduced equipment manufacturing costs, didn't bear any of the R&D costs, and haven't had to pay for this double-dip investment in upgrading our infrastructure.

First the worst, second the best etc.

I was with Sky BB and they threatened a massive hike. I phoned to discuss, used the cancel and they gave me a deal that wasn't brilliant so I told them I'd think about it. I phoned to see if I could trim some more off and they told me that the previous discussion wasn't right and I shouldn't have offered that deal and they actually questioned me like I was lying. Despite me pointing it out in an email they sent with the offer on.

This pissed me off, so I told them I was cancelling everything I had with sky. Through to another department and I got BB for about £10 more a month, BUT this now includes basic Sky TV which I had just cancelled.

Bit of a result.

A lot of this stuff is down to luck.

pissed off with Virgin at the moment. They told me sometime in July that they would be sending me an adapter to connect to my broadband device and changing my landline to fibre optic[ something like that anyway]. They said go live was the 17th August. Adapter arrived on 2nd August and from that date my landline wouldn't work either for receiving or making calls. Come the 17th everything was back working ok. Received my monthly bill by email last week and no reduction for loss of service. Now perhaps I'm only talking about a tenner or so but it's the principle of the thing so I got on to Virgin to complain and complain I did. They understood my problem and said they'd look into it but some part of their system wasn't wotking so they'd ring me back later that day. Of course they didn't! I'm now in the throes of thinking if I want to waste another hour or so of my time for the sake of a tenner.

The question is when is it due to be completed, the cable network that city fibre and yayzi use will be the same surely.

But it's quite a big job to roll out to an entire town.

Yayzi obviously thought is was imminent when they sponsored the club but it seems to have come to nothing, for now.

After typing the above I did a quick search and found this...

It's clearly not ready yet, but you'd think there were areas done.

Not sure if Yayzi are still taking any customers, as they had no real coverage yet, not sure if their office off Amy Johnson way is still theirs.

We should all boycott all these companies who make it virtually impossible to contact them without being messed about on the phone for hours on end, then can hardly understand a word from whoever is on the other end. Currently having a spat between Virgin mobile & O2 & frankly it's embarrassing you simply cannot send an email pointing out your issues. So like yourself I've actually sent a letter via post to a bloody phone & media company! Not happy is the understatement & if I get another email from an unmonitored account saying I owe them even more I'm likely to hit the roof. 🤬 🤬 🤬
I now need to calm down 🙄

BT wanted £47 for my 150 fibre. Been with them for years. Sky offered me same for £30. Also looking to shift SkyQ to Stream, but struggling to get them to give me a decent price compared to new customers. Will persevere as Dish is soooo last Millennium

Update

After spending hours on the phone and webchat Virgin came down to £46 per month.

I told them it was still too high.

Last week I got an email offering 130mbs at £27 per month.

I didn't reply to that, but today went on to Virgin webchat. After 2 and a half hours of toing and froing they eventually offered me 350 mbs at £34 per month, on an 18 month contract

I'm obviously very pleased with this and have accepted, but it's bloody annoying having to do all this dancing around. I have the time and determination to play them at this game, but I feel sorry for others who get ripped off by Virgin and similar organisations

Wow. I'm sat on the beach reading these comments.Long overdue holiday I'm currently an area manager for a company mention a few times, I will not mention which one for data protection purposes. I must admit the role out for fibre to the property in the UK especially the north is nothing short of disastrous. If you are lucky enough to get FTTP I think £35 a month is fair value. But like with all company's check the after sale support. I know that with one of the above mentioned providers, if a fault happens the wait time is 14 days for a cube engineer. Who these days can be without bb for 2 weeks. As far as Sky is concerned I find their TV package especially the sport second to none. And again around 35/40 a month I would consider fair value. Ps Im not currently employed by bskyb.

Signed up with Shell energy (10 mins ago) through Broadband Genie
110Mbps Fibre for £26.99pm....But you get a £120 gift card, so it works out to £20.33p a month for 18months
Had to pay £9.95 for the router as well, but think this is a very decent deal, considering SKY were charging me £39.99 for an average 20Mbps

Dont have definative dates blood as its 2024 to complete the entire project but work is underway over the north of blackpool installing conduit. there are numerous articles out there that state all of Blackpool are to receive this. when i check my postcode on the cityfibre website it now states we will be with you shortly

In the link below it is confirmed that Fleetwood, Cleveleys, Thornton and Poulton are also covered in the rollout,

Hallelujah I've just had an email from the Communications Ombudsman, after my snail mail complaint to O2/Virgin mobile. Full refund & contract cancelled. Now if you could just actually contact these wankers by email how much easier it would be for us.

They don't want to make it easy. They're banking on most people giving up and accepting their crap service.
