Get well soon John. A true character of the game. Used to keep his eye in by getting his wife to occasionally throw an orange across the lIrving room whilst they watched telly and he would dive out the armchair and try and catch it😂

Whatever anyone says he was a real character right throughout football, and entertained many fans throughout his career.
Hope he gets better and makes a return to BR at some point; a proper footballer who deserves immense respect.

Proper character and one hell of a keeper.
....anyone remember him ”managing” a local Sunday league team...
..fond memories of the one and only “Budgie”.

Absolutely top bloke, we used to purchase our Saturday team kits from him in Newcastle - always a man who likes a deal.

I'm hopeless at posting links so maybe someone can help me out?
He posted a video of himself on his Twitter account yesterday that would make anyone smile who's admired him.

He has really seen some lows, admitting he tried to kill himself due to the counterfeit goods court case and also being forced to hang up his gloves at 47. He also suffered horrendous injuries after a road collision whilst coaching in Oman. 🙁

All the best Budgie.

Ok, bare with me here, the old grey matter isn’t what it used to be, I’m sure I saw a clip from an interview of a player( not bfc) who was asked who was the most eccentric player he played with(or words to that effect) . He said “ I used to play with a guy called John burridge who would put on headphones before a game and listen to a recording of himself saying , you’re better than Shilton, you’re England’s number 1no one can beat you!). I can’t remember where or when I saw it, it could of possibly been from a post on here.

I was too young to watch Budgie play for Pool..My dad told me all about him though...I remember he was player manager for Blyth Spartans when they gave us a great game in the FA Cup in the 90s...4-3 thriller

That was a cracking game. He was about 45 if memory serves and barking mad. Made a couple of good stops too. Glad I got to see both him and Shilton play*.

Actually, now I think about it, I'm not sure I did see Shilton. Who cares tbf...

I seem to to remember an 18 year old Budgie being made to sell his Lotus Europa sports car by the then Pool manager Bob Stokoe. Anyone know the full story on this ?

It was a cracking game indeed...I think they had an Argentinian who scored a screamer...Phil 'The Ghost' Clarkson saved our blushes with an injury time winner
