Buggering about at the Back.

Watching Spurs v Fulham.

Both Spurs goals arose from the Fulham defence messing about and then misplacing a pass to Spurs.

There were comments in the 1st half about the greater number of goals now scored in the Premier League from penalties (due to VAR), and when there are mistakes when the ball is played out from the back.

It'll go out of fashion eventually. Just hope Critchley isn't the last manager to persevere with this.

There is playing it out from the back with competence and just down right ignorance

Poor old Marv has been the victim of just not quite being so good at it but in all other ways he’s still a top player

Exactly the title I have for it too Olly. Every week a handful of goals are scored that just wouldn't have happened 10-15 years ago.

I'm sometimes surprised that a manager doesn't comment on it afterwards. They're quick to say, we didn't win our battles, conceded from a set piece etc. But I've never yet heard one say we dwell on the ball and stand like statues around our own area. But I suppose then they're condemning their own intentions.

It's how to get the balance between going back to the old ways and trying to play a possession based game that doesn't resemble my old five a side team. Lots of movement, and fast slick passing is surely the only way it can work.
