Building up for a fall

The hype around tonight is ridiculous, everyone is jumping on the bandwagon, the media, the Queen, Boris, all saying Gareth is suddenly a wonderful person and manager and should be knighted, this group of players are the best we’ve had, team togetherness bla, bla, bla.

God help us if they lose, it will be the biggest depression in living memory. Let’s face it, this isn’t the World Cup, which is the pinnacle, this is the league cup to the FA cup.

Everyone needs to get off their backs and let them get on with the job, there’s enough pressure on them, without everyone else adding to it.

What a miserable post.
No different when Blackpool got promoted to the Premier league the buzz around the town for the game, prominent people coming out in support, local businesses ,flag flying on top of the tower, schools etc.

Enjoy it days like today don't come around that often(BFC in play off finals a given) 😁

I tend to agree with you .
The only argument I can raise is that the Euros are tougher than the World Cup in many ways.
Only Brazil and Argentina are missing who would have a realistic chance in the competition.
Very few weak teams and in our opening group we faced Panama and Tunisia.
If you want proof then look at the teams in the last 6 WC finals . Of the 12 only 2 are from South America.

Lets be cheerful then

Are you Scottish or Welsh?

You can only imagine the o/p tutting at the TV tonight when England make a mistake drinking his Horlicks while most of us will be half pissed. 👍

I agree there is a lot of pressure on Gareth and the team, but that’s the nature of the game and tournament.

As for if we lose, I think we’d have a lot of dissapointed people tonight, but as a nation I think we’d get over it pretty quickly.

C’mon England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I have just read it again and I can’t work out if it’s a wind-up or not? Moans that everyone is getting carried away saying how good they are and then says get off their backs?

The beauty of being a football fan is the ability to dream, to revel in victories and to enjoy moments like today on the back of the last few weeks. Are we not allowed to get carried away as fans now?

Are we allowed to smile today at all?

We've got the semi final defeat curse off our backs so no pressure from me.

With a decent manager we'd probably have walked tonight. 😬🙄😀

Blimey, I was just saying the hype is way over the top from people who never, ever watch football. Of course I believe we’ll win, and I predict 3-1 with Sterling scoring the first.

I'm with you all the way LALA but AVFTT won't get over anything quickly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please can you not put any added pressure on to Sterling, saying he’s going to score 1st, I don’t think it’s fair on him or the other players, there’s enough pressure on them all without you adding to it.

You get to a major final and there is pressure, I don't think that the ramblings of none football person, bandwagon jumping, ok to boo taking the knee, attention seeking hypocrite Boris Johnson will add to it.
Come on England!!

I'm much less nervous about tonight than I was on Wednesday, we've made a final, it's a cause for celebration, not a nail biting semi.

Johnston et al just need to fuck off, the absolute hypocrisy of Priti Patel posting a picture of herself wearing an (still got the packet creases) England shirt is fooling no one and is best ignored.

If Keith had any nous at all, he'd have done the same. It galls me to say it but he really is useless.

Unfortunately Johnson and Patel are consistently fooling about 40% of the population!!

Some people are just enjoying the run. And will say the team did well to reach the final. There is a feeling of 'typical England '. So there is no arrogance or anything like that.

Keith is another massive hypocrite, lockdown shouldn’t end but can I get some freebies for the final. Along with the rest of the preening lying famous people that keep telling us what we should be doing then doing the exact opposite because they are rich and famous. Utter wankers the lot of em. Anyway seeing as it’s a massive day and there’s still people moaning ( me included😁) COME ON ENGLAND 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I’m 100% ok with getting to the final, there will be no deep depression from me if we lose tonight. Just disappointment for the team, Gareth, myself and the country that will be forgotten by the morning, on my part.
Of course I’ll be bloody ecstatic if we win.
But.....life goes on, either way, as it should.

I'm no fan of Starmer but he is a genuine football fan, which is maybe why on this occasion he hasn't gone for a very obvious, cheesy politicians photo shoot.

I hope all genuine England fans have a great day and once this game is over all the self serving career politicians of all parties, that hold this country back and generally show no interest in working class people or pursuits, fuck off permanently!!

The one thing that worries me is the foreign media accusations of England cheating which have been rife all week. However fair the ref is tonight, it must be in the back of his mind that any penalty award to us will be highly contentious. Also, the rest of Europe seem to think we're arrogant and any award to Italy will no doubt be warmly welcomed across the continent.

Considering this is the best chance for England to win something in my lifetime (I didn't think we would) I'm currently very calm, whether that lasts is another thing.
Me too. But it’s early yet.
I think by 6pm when you can feel the streets getting quieter and there’s that strange sense of tumbleweed in the air as everyone’s at home settled with their beers in anticipation, THEN the nerves will start.
For me anyway.

Actually mine have just started, had of wave of them 🤪
Might have to have some booze to calm down.

I don't think at all. The media were all over the Italians play acting and feigning injury as well, modern footballers of any nation seek to gain advantage by cheating so the ref will judge how he sees it.

I’m quite happy to block out what they are reporting in other nations.
If we win I’ll take no notice at all of any negativity.

Agree with you about hype. News headlines this morning suggest there nothing wrong in the world; crime, unemployment, national debt, Brexit implications, poverty have all either disappeared or are irrelevant.
Colleagues who admit to never having an interest in football are making ridiculous, apparently heart-rending statements on social media:- "Sooooo excited, OMG, don't know how I got through that, wasn't that the most amaaazing game, Hun?, it's coming home, let's take a selfie in my England shirt."
Sorry to put a dampener on things.
England has done well to qualify for its first major final for half a century. Like the last one, its being held at home, but this time in front of merely sixty thousand English fans.
Hope they win, but probably won't affected my current pay/pension negotiations or Mum's place on the waiting list for surgery

I’m looking forward to the game, last final England were in and I was 7 and probably didn’t appreciate what was going on though probably wrapped up in all the excitement and singing World Cup Willie (cos it had the word Willie in it tee hee)

World War 2 had only ended 20 years earlier so a lot of feelings about that were still around (perpetuated now by The Comedians doing “dey bombed are chippie” jokes and Dads Army and Colditz in the 70’s and by the German football team being so very good in the 80’s etc and now one final straw to cling too!

This time I’m fully aware of what’s going on so will soak the experience up as it may well be MY last opportunity to watch England battle a final out against a very good, clever Italian team.

Willie! ….tee hee hee!

It won't change the important issues in your life but it is a welcome distraction from them!
That's what makes it so annoying for me when Johnson and Patel look to bask in the reflected glory and at the same time hide behind the smoke screen that England doing well creates for them.

Sometimes it’s ok to have a day off from bad news coverage. We know it hasn’t gone away, but there are times or days like this when we are allowed not to focus on it.
Too much negativity without allowing the positives to be broadcast isn’t a good balance.
As an aside, they tell you not to watch the news before bed if you are suffering from depression. Goes to show what an impact too much negativity can have on anyone’s mind.

I've been saying the same thing.

I've even blocked my two best mates on WhatsApp for the amount of 'Its Coming Home' shite they're sending me

However, in reality, and in the words of Kevin Keegan ..... I would love if we beat them, LOVE IT

Listening to the Radio, (Radio Lancs), every time it's a new person on it's the same old claptrap about getting excited
about the match etc. people who have never been to a match or even supported their local teams.
Pain in the RS. 🙄

Great post .

It really is ridiculous . I wish this game had been last night.

My neighbours had a party in their garden last night getting rat arsed and singing cos they can't handle the excitement and tension

Kept me up til 4 am I feel absolutely fecked today and can't enjoy the tennis

Coming home? England have never won the euro trophy ? It was never at home in the first place

Come on englaaaaand

I'm 48½, my nation is in a football final for the first time in my life.

I desperately want us to win; but I've desperately wanted us to win since Espana '82 which is the first tournament I can remember.

There's a bit of me which resents those who have no attachment to our sport, the highs and lows it can bring, attaching themselves to this team at this moment, but whatever the outcome tonight, they won't feel the pain or joy in quite the same way.

It's why for loads of Blackpool fans 2007 is as important as 2010.

As for good luck messages that's all they are, with a note to say, well done for getting this far. There are so many teams and era's which didn't and it's not wrong to say, we know that.

IF we win tonight, other than the usual naysayer's who will mock 'flag shaggers' and feel the need to remind us that St. George was Turkish and all the other nonsense; there will be millions upon millions of people walking around with smiles on their faces and a spring in their step and maybe, just maybe, for one day, we will remember that we are all English. And that is reason enough to celebrate.

Come on England.

Yep, if we win, they’ll be all over it for a week and then they’ll desert football again, if we lose, they’ll all pretty cry, and say how well we did, and they’re still heroes, and they’ll all be gone by Wednesday.

Most of it comes from the ones who would rather watch bake off😉 Just nice to see people with smiles on their faces to be honest.
Massive achievement if they win it so wont be devastated if they lose. Plenty to be proud of and lots to look forward to going forward 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

In my view this this could (or should) become the norm for England in major tournaments, and if that comes with hype or expectation, then so be it. You just have to listen to the recent player and manager interviews.
We just seem to have a more professional set up with a squad and management team whose feet are firmly on the ground. It's also the result of years of preparation (St George's training facility and studying successful teams of the past for example)

There are no individual heroes or egos in the squad, and there's always someone to step up if/when required. Eg, When Kane wasn't firing, Sterling was. Also our defence has looked as good as I can remember. I will be disappointed if we don't win, but getting to the semis or final shouldn't be viewed as a one off imo.
Our game management at the end of the semi was very professional. If it was Germany or France everyone would be commenting on it
