Burnley's view on us

Seems like the usual brainless idiots on there.
' I'd like to tell them where they can shove their Tower'.
Lot's of brain boxes in Burnley. 😉

Some ok posts but imagine a Burnley fan having the temerity to look down their nose at Blackpool as a football club or town.

This is Burnley we are talking about here. They got cars there yet?

Some decent comments on there tbf. I think maybe the rivalry isn't quite as intense because generally we haven't played each other that much in recent years - only 5 seasons out of the last 22 I think.
Although those making comments about Blackpool being a dump have clearly managed to avoid seeing certain parts of Burnley all their lives.

As usual the only bit people see is the central bit, most don't have a clue about other areas, Stanley Park, parts of South shore thats more rural, north shore etc.

I get why they wouldn't go there but people see the worst areas and assume the rest is similar.
We don't want them in the nice parts of town, just shove the tourists in the shithole bit we avoid and let them get on with it.

90% decent comments to be fair. A bit condescending but it's expected. There seems to be this mentality from clubs that get 13-18k attendances that they are huge when they aren't in reality.
Yeah it's bizarre the comments about a small fanbase. The difference between all four main lancs clubs is negligible - if we all played in the same league for 20 years we'd all get around the same.

They do well for attendances for the towns size, but let's face it what else is there to do in Burnley. Blackpool has hundreds of things to do and a population with many connections to other areas.

When you've been in the prem for years it tends to help build a fanbase too.

If we finish our stadium and go in the prem for years I'd expect us to retain a lot of fans too.

The funniest joke I heard about Burnley was when the Antiques Roadshow went there but the locals thought it was Tomorrow’s World.

Honestly, talk about a town stuck in the middle of nowhere. There’s nothing else to do but go to the football so it’s not surprising most of the population go. To compare such a place to Blackpool is just ludicrous.

Does anybody remember when one of them screenshot their browser for some reason to do with football and posted on turniphead.net or whatever their forum is called? The idiot had left a search in his Google add on in the top right hand corner saying something like ‘soapy tit wank’. The rest of the thread was, shall we say, off topic.

Maybe he was looking to see if Bumley were signing anyone from PNE

Yes that's very strange a dingle showing interest in soap.

They've been spoilt with a few years of Premier League football, there above playing teams like Blackpool now.

Did they all start talking about their sisters ?

"Blackpool were excellent 2nd half and thoroughly deserved a point if not 3, for that 2nd half performance.

"Certainly, bringing on a debutant was probably a bad idea when Blackpool looked so dangerous and were playing more direct. They were scared stiff of Tella.

"Blackpool deserve credit for their substitutions that changed the game, the big lad they stuck up front ( @td53 ) frightened the deaf out of our porous defence. (Deaf!)

"Blackpool sussed out how to play us in the second half.

"They seemed an incredibly fit, strong and mobile team. I think they bullied our team at times. Going direct certainly worked to there strengths.

"They also got away with murder constant kicking and niggly fouls without receiving bookings.

"No idea who there number 11 was but he destroyed our midfield and back four in that second half.

"Bowler was excellent, has been linked with a move to the Prem.

Think the ‘ sussing them out ‘
is major. Seems Appleton is much better than Critchley at sussing out what we need to change to get back in the game.
His tactics seem spot on so far. Had a hunch we’d come out fighting in the second half.

Am quietly gaining more and more excitement re his appointment.

I dont belong to the Critch was a duffer camp, and i don't belong to the Appleton's a duffer camp either. We got a lot of good results under Critchley and we rarely went 3-1 down in the first half. Or 2-0 in the first 10 minutes. They are different. A lot of that resilience and spirit today was developed last season. Appleton is building some bravery onto that, I reckon.

I’m not a Critch hater myself, but I think he had a weakness with his subbing and changing up the game which is a strength that Appleton has.

Great stuff.

In reality they were lucky to escape with a point in the end.

But tbf it was a good game and I'll take a point considering.

He had a different approach. We had better first halves! Strengths and weaknesses. We seem to be in and out if games more with Appleton. So there's more recovery and alteration necessary!

Yeah would be nice to make a plan for the opposition so that you have less damage to react to, but you can't have the best of both worlds I suppose.

Critch's subs were dire and he never seemed to have a Plan B. I was never a fan but had to give him credit for the Promotion and 60pts in the Championship.
I think Critch was found out towards the end of last season and had a feeling he had lost the dressing room which might have accelerated his decision to move to Villa.

I honestly thjnk that's just the sort of stuff that football fans dream up. Critch got offered a massive pay rise.
which doesn't negate the possibility of unrest with the players. It was blindingly obvious Jerry and Madine had issues.More than likely due to Quitch's dubious tactics and formations which varied from inspired to downright bizarre.

"Game changer"

Seems their perception of us pre-match was a positive one, we've spent too far apart in the modern era and the intensity of the derby has died down a fair bit from the 90s where everyone talks about how big it was then.

In the ground on the side the away fans met the home was very rowdy, probably the maddest I've seen inside of a ground and I couldn't believe it took 'em till after half time to bring police up in-between as the first half was essentially a free for all. If Burnley end up sticking around I don't think it'll take long for the rivalry to get that spark again, in fact it may already be back.
(disclaimer: I imagine what went on in the ground was tame in comparison to the actual era of hooliganism but that was way before my time - for the modern era it was pretty tasty!)

Love taking the piss out of Burnley, the town and their fans but do have a grudging respect for them. They are a club who have gone about their business well and are an example to a lot of smaller clubs who make it to the Prem.
Very passionate bunch, having worked over there and spent a bit of time out East Lancs way I would say that as a (shit) whole they get behind their team. There seems to be a lot less Man U/Liverpool plastic fans than there are in other Lancashire towns, especially ours! Geography is in their favour as its quite an insular place.
The ’derby’ with Burnley has lost a lot of bite, it’s nowhere near what is was back in the 80’s & 90’s when both clubs were always battling in the bottom two divisions, a game against the ‘Clampits’ as they were more commonly known then was massive! Now it’s just another local game much like Blackburn or Wigan, for me Preston and then Bolton are the big ones.

Burnley were only getting crowds of 12,000 pre prem, even some sub 10k crowds for midweek games.

Not great is it for a town where everyone supports one club.
