Burton game postponed

I'm not surprised it is off either.

What I can't fathom is why clubs are allowed to assert that they can't fulfil a fixture and the EFL only looks at the issue retrospectively. This has been going on nearly twelve months now, surely they can do better than that?

There needs to be more transparency. Clubs should list all available players and only be able to postpone if they have less than 14 fit. The system is too easy to fiddle by claiming player x, y and z have failed concussion tests, etc. I'm not saying Burton are doing this but I will almost guarantee some clubs will.

Meant to play Rochdale on Boxing Day when they were in a rut, they’ve now started to score for fun. Meant to play Northampton on a Tuesday when they hadn’t played for a month, postponed. Meant to play the worst side in the division when we desperately need to keep momentum to catch up on the top half, postponed. How depressing. We’ll now have to play all 3 games in completely different circumstances

It's an absolute farce that it's left to the clubs to determine whether they play or not.

The circumstances should be sent for independent adjudication to determine whether it's on or not.

I seem to recall that the Football League couldn't intervene with the Oystons because they were 'simply competition organisers'.

It would appear that they've abrogated from that as well.

Clearly a team not wanting to play is the over-riding factor.
The fact that the EFL will investigate is just a waste of time.
At the worst Burton will get a suspended fine which at a time when Clubs are desperately short of money is not very constructive.
The EFL should have a hard set of rules that if you have 16 (the FA said 14 for the Cup) fit professionals then you have to play. Tough but fair.

Clubs please themselves these days, with the EFL being totally toothless and disinterested. Remember last season when Bolton decided not to bother playing, can’t remember either Donny or Bradford, the EFL did nothing, no sanctions at all, just told them not to be naughty boys, don’t do it again, pathetic.

Reluctantly, I can't see this going on much longer. Either that, or they'll have to extend the season.

We only have 3 free Tuesdays between now and the end of April (2 if the rearranged Burton match is slotted in), so we've already got a packed schedule, 2 games a week most weeks.
And there are clubs with more games to play than us.
Are we getting to the stage that clubs will be expected to play 3 games in a week to catch up?

Getting beyond a joke now the amount of games we're having postponed.

After the result against Wigan this could have been the start of some momentum again but its probably going to be quelled now. No wonder the League is so unpredictable.

Only positive I can find within this is it gives a chance for some of our lads who have picked up knocks time to return, and players out with covid possibly enough time that they've fulfilled their isolation period.

Other than that though its a kick in the teeth. Hasslebank in his interview in the week was basically already alluding to the fact they wanted the game off, I'm sure they were really pressed to call it off 🧐

A lot of people questioning the EFL but what fool-proof and cost-effective measures would you realistically be able to put in place?

The EFL are the competition organiser, who else should we question?

The current position is that League regulations say that no club can postpone a match without first consulting the League. And then there is COVID guidance that implicitly says something else.

Nobody is saying this is easy, but in this day and age there should be the ability to share information in real time such that it is the EFL who takes the decision. What we have here is a recipe for 72 different approaches, and no transparency whatsoever.

The season will have to be extended. No choice and it's no big deal anyway.

It is hardly a surprise is it, when their game on Tuesday was postponed because of Covid and self isolating?

Looks like it's gone for a Burton....(ho, ho, ho). Actually, the Brew Room have just delivered my 9 pint mini-cask which was supposed to see me through tomorrow evening and the match on Saturday - ho hum.

No surprise but nonetheless disappointing.

The only positive I can see is that it enable me to shoehorn in one of my favourite words.

The match overmorrow (the day after tomorrow) has been postponed.
