Burton v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 31.10.20

Fook me that was like watching a different team!

Bar one or two hands in the head moments defensively we’ve have bosses that game.

442 with the interchanging positions seems to be the key here.

Well done to a man out there, NC MG and CC. 👏

Yeah that was a much better first half that. Husband a bit suspect but everywhere else a bit solid. I feel like Williams has just watched his replacement take his spot. Robson to come in for Williams. We've looked so so much more threatening. The Viking looks like he's gonna grow into a proper CB for us.

Let's see this out and use this game as our start to move up the league.

Much better half of football. New lads look decent. When Dougall is on the ball he has looked good settling the midfield and passing has been sound. What we needed. Gretarsson looking solid too. Front two much more effective today. In fact that goes pretty much all round. Agree with future,Husband shaky again though.

On the downside Maxwell proving again he’s not a captain - not just because of position but because his temperament isn’t up to it.
Better than what?
We still have 11 men on the field and somehow haven't conceded but we have played far better and lost this season so far!

So much more understanding going forward. Best 45 minutes this season. 4 4 2 suits this group of players, everyone seemed to know their role well and much more direct. Still work to be done defensively but we haven't had a settled/consitent back 4 yet this season. Promising stuff. Another goal second half, 2-0 to the pool full time.

The Referee is a complete tosser.
How on earth did he not at least book the guy for that foul on Kaikai (was it)?
Instead he books both skippers. 🙄

Much better going forward. Yates no straightjacket on him. Good.

Defence looks like it could ship 2 second half though.

Nice to see CC having an impact either direct or indirect. His arrival won't, hasn't and couldn't have gone unnoticed.

Decent half. Burton made a few chances early but finishing was poor. Their lad should have been sent off. We have looked ok but Husband has a 45 minutes to forget.

Dougal looked off the pace for the first 10 minutes but has grown into the game. Not sure how long he will last. Have to put my hand up for Turton as well. Decent half to be fair.

I agree TB, been saying a 442 would suit these players better and so far we look a better unit than in previous weeks. Mind you, we’ve 11 on the pitch so that does help with the shape 😝

Thought exactly the same re Dougall and Williams. Dougall is in a different league. As you say Robson would be good with Dougall.

Much better formation and balance. The only player who looks awful is Husband and I didn't rate him last season either. Hopefully Garbutt will take that position when he is fit. The 2 defensive midfielders are covering really well and pushing the attack on when they get the ball and the front 4 are doing well. madine looks much better with players around him and it has clearly helped Yates.

We still look a bit shaky at times so a second goal would settle the nerves. Oh, and how that lad wasn't sent off for that challenge on Kaikai I have no idea, it was worse than any of our sendings off in midweek.

were attacking as a four with some interchange rather than individuals spread out across the pitch. its not the prettiest but it does look much more effective

Do we need CJ in this formation? His touch has been poor and he's passed once out of the 10 times he's had it. Kemp would be better for me.

Yates looks much happier playing closer to Madine. KaiKai I'm not sure his preferred position is on the wing but he's capable of a decent cross so he should be effective and has played ok.

Take him out and the opposition doesn’t have to worry about a major threat. Pace is essential at this level and he set up Yates for the shot that hit the post. He can also finish. He’s a must in our team, as is Kaikai.

Nah not really. I don't want him to play shit. I don't hate him, I just think he's not very good and we have better, more attacking on the bench.
Only seen Gabriel once
Better attacking worse defending
Turts is an average L1 full back but I do not think his position is under threat until we sign someone better. He is our longest serving player because a few managers have also believed that.

Take that so far, better than recent performances, like the look of Dougall so far and let‘s hope Yates confidence gets a boost from that goal.

To be fair to Husband he's up against a well regarded player on loan from Wolves who looks a right unit. He's doing OK after a shaky start.

You are rating Gabriel on one game against one of the if not the best player in the division...he is worth another look
