Was fantastic tonight,Controlled the game, made the right pass at the right time. He’s a serious player for this level, one we need to be really pushing for in the summer
Agreed - he's looked much better without Norburn in the team. The last couple of games he has looked really good and always looking to go forward. Thus just happens to coincide when Mr Slow isn't in the team.
I think Byers has also brought the best out of Carey.Agreed - he's looked much better without Norburn in the team.
The first half today was his best 45mins for us.
Agreed.I think Byers has also brought the best out of Carey.
I’m not sure the Norburn / Byers combination works. Byers has been much better in the last couple of games without Norburn. Might also be the weaker opposition giving him more time & space. If we have ambitions to kick on and challenge for promotion next season, we should be doing all we can to sign him up. We need to get Norburn fully fit and hope we see the player we thought we'd signed last summer. Try Apter in the Dembele role and find a couple of strikers who link well and can actually score.
The jury is out, I agree, maybe I'm just clinging to hope that Norburn is a better player than what we've seen? Ultimately he's tied to a contract and our captain, so he'll play a big part next season, even if we can sign Byers.I’m not sure the Norburn / Byers combination works. Sadly, I don’t think we’ll see this happening at all.The fact he was dropped against Wycombe still grates. He's our best midfielder by a mile, he can run, dictates a higher tempo and actually plays the ball forward. Him and Carey have started to form a decent connection and with Dembele linking, it led to a lot more threat and chances being created last night. Now if only we could get all our strikers firing.
No doubt Dembele is destined for bigger things. Byers is here now and that gives us hope and at least a place at the table. CJ is fine, if he's played in a role that suits him. If we move on from Rhodes then we desperately need 2 strikers capable of scoring 20 a season.Sadly, I don’t think we’ll see this happening at all.
Can we get Byers? Does he want to come (afford him?)
Dembele will be at Leeds next season.
In the event, that means finding two other big, footballing, athletic midfielders to get the best out of Carey.
CJ has gone backwards since he got a new contract. We need two quick, wide players belting the ball into the danger area. Is that Lyon’s and Gabriel?
He's just the type of player who you can see tries to put a shift in for whoever he's played for and supporters can identify with it. Been like that all his career so far wherever he's played.I don't know Pool. He's looked really up for it when we've won recently, like at Shrewsbury, when they all came over and to me he was giving off really good vibes, like still believe. It was the same last night.
He's got a great understanding with Dembele, as someone says above. Two players who enjoy the ball at their feet. Factor in a returning Albie Morgan and the midfield looks a whole load more mobile and creative.
I just hope, if we are interested in keeping him, he doesn't play silly buggers with getting an offer.
Beesley - 12(or is it 13?) so far this season. Strange he doesn’t do better in the heading department. Worth another season. No doubt Dembele is destined for bigger things. I chuckled at the more coaching comment. Is this the same coaching that has seen Lavery and Joseph struggle to hit a cows arse with a banjo?Beesley - 12(or is it 13?) so far this season. Strange he doesn’t do better in the heading department. Worth another season.
Joseph - 2 (Still hoping on him but he needs a better partner than we’ve got.)
Lavery - 5? Lost some pace?
Kouassi - not broken his duck in the league. Needs more coaching.
Rhodes - possibility that he may come to us in a player/coach role. Great when he plays but now injury prone. Huddersfield want him off the pay roll.
Doesn’t look great does it?
How about the Irish lad from Fleetwood (Amo’whatever he’s called. Big and quick.)
Three main things that will drive his decision money, geography and reputation of club/manager, money being the main one.I don't know Pool. He's been playing well for Fwood.I didn't realize that the big lad in midfield for Fleetwood was Bosun Lawal, on loan from Celtic. I assume this is a legacy from the Scott Brown tenure. He was highly rated at Watford and Celtic signed him on a long contract. At 6'2" and 20yrs old he would be a useful acquisition for next season as a midfield destroyer or a ball playing CH
Top 6 is very specific!Getting Byers was a real steal for us; I said it at the time on here, too. He was underutilised to begin with and then struggled in parts playing next to Norburn, who so often slows the game down or doesn't move the ball on/forward quick enough.
He's absolutely a Top 6 midfielder for League One and I'm not surprised that we're seeing the best of him now he's leading the midfield.
And there's me thinking Kouassi scored with a header against Stevenage in a LEAGUE game!Beesley - 12(or is it 13?) so far this season. Strange he doesn’t do better in the heading department. Worth another season.

Mostly just amounts to interchangeable bodies really in this set up I think. Players being dipped in and out. Sideways and backwards passing to keep behind the ball and in a shape. Can't do anything about injuries but from what I've seen it's been a case of couple of home results and possibly some continuity but then away from home it unravels with a dead game. And then whoever was being talked up one week is missing from the 18 the next. Carey looks prime candidate for that to me again if it goes awry at the weekend. And probably yes for Morgan coming back into it because he's not had a go for a while.Albie Morgan has been a miss. Before his injury he was starting to look class in more central midfield role (not in the 10). Plus he was scoring goals too.
In a 4-3-3 Byers, Carey and Morgan might just click. All three are mobile, can shoot and pass the ball well if there’s options around them.
In the 3-4-1-2 I’m not convinced either Carey or Morgan have shone in the Dembele (10) role.
He scored against Reading with a headerAnd there's me thinking Kouassi scored with a header against Stevenage in a LEAGUE game!
Everyone was looking forward to seeing Norburn play as he came with a decent reputation.Problem is if we do sign him, like Norburn how long will it be before people on here turn on him
Yet Snitchley talked about Byers being a good replacement for ‘Norbs’!Everyone was looking forward to seeing Norburn play as he came with a decent reputation.
Unfortunately for whatever reason he slows the game down which makes us so easy to play against.
He is captain so sets the tempo, and in my eyes has been a huge disappointment
Yes I can see Norburn and Connolly as our go to midfield with CJ as wing back. Totally frustrating.Yet Snitchley talked about Byers being a good replacement for ‘Norbs’!
Norburn, for whatever reason, will be next season’s Connolly!
Not sure Gabriel will still be with us, Sadler may well cash in on him to help fund incoming. As for Lyons, we may not see him before 2025.Sadly, I don’t think we’ll see this happening at all.

Yes he scored, contrary to not having scored. He scored against Reading with a header
I suspect he has lost a yard of pace since the injury before he joined us.Everyone was looking forward to seeing Norburn play as he came with a decent reputation.

It's either that or he's forgot to unhook his trailer from when he moved. We've been sold a pudding.I suspect he has lost a yard of pace since the injury before he joined us.
