Cambridge v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 16.12.23

Very, very poor today.

We're predictable and seem to have no plan B for when we're unable to impose ourselves. The players were outfought today and seemed to lose their heads after some dodgy refereeing decisions. As frustrating as it is, they need to stop complaining and get on with the game. I hope we don't hear the referee being used as an excuse as we were nowhere near good enough.

Best comment of the day. 😎

We can't beat typical League 1 clubs.

Going back to their first goal. Connolly and Husband both stood with their arm in the air claiming offside. If their immediate reaction was to get back in then they would have been there to get to the rebound after Grimmy saved the initial shot. We are always going to have off days going forwards. Can’t be too critical of our attack given that we are one of the high scoring teams in the league. You’ve got to be able to go to places like Cambridge and be solid. Look what Peterborough have done at Fleetwood today. Scored a goal, won 1-0. Job done.

Perhaps Peterborough simply have a more capable manager ?

Ooof see your season has gone as we stated. Joyous start and now back to being the boring Magnolia nothing that you sister botherers are
The season hasn’t ended yet and we are still only 3 points off a playoff place in a division higher than your lot. You lot need to get rid of Critch and Dobbie in before you have an even worse season than us you gull dragger

Also, don’t come anywhere near the north stand with your weird lefty fist celebration until we are in the play offs. No point winning one week then losing the next.

No it’s over NW.

You’ve had your excitement. Crowds will dwindle, everyone is bored. Never reach the Prem and yet another £20m + loss racked up for your beleaguered owner.

Our seasons are always interesting. Yours are dull.

Mods why do we have to put up with these Nobbers? get them banned like they did to the pool fans on penisonline.

Grow a backbone FFS.

Boo the fuckers off and save the biggest boo for Critchley. Useless once again.
I was waiting for the Simmo appreciation of the team post - at least Carlisle have a fan base ! That was a low turn out for us

I am unwell but I am getting tired of how our last match away went (4-0 at the league leaders) and then the promise of ‘an easy’ set of fixtures running into Xmas - we flatter to deceive

It’s not good enough - let’s see how dull we are v FGR as that’s not a given after this confidence drainer - I see the decent teams in our league all won at a canter (bar one !) - no doubt they’ll be 4,000 maybe at that

Anyway I will only use too many expletives and my tax return seems more appealing than this team

awful defensive performance, it wasnt the game for connolly who was very poor today and im usualy a bit of a fan of his, think casey should have been in though. Norburn is a liability, and has been every time hes played since he got sent off. He has very little sense of where the players are around him so everything has to stop for him whenever he has the ball, and he just seems to create confusion around him. when Morgan came on we looked a bit more purposeful but the damage had been done already. Some bizarre substitutions today.

Thought Beesley had a decent game but we just didnt get any service to the front two really. Carey was decent first half b ut he was having to play very deep to compensate for Norburn lack of forward momentum.

incredibly bad day at the office.

Officials werent to blame for the under-par performance but if i was rating them on a scale of 1 to 10 they would score lower than Norburn who for me barely scraped a 1 out of ten.

Grimmy lucky not to get sent off for walking 0utside the box with the ball, fortunately a shite ref
Agree with most of that . I also like Connolly, he’s a good pro , but where in all honesty would he make a positive difference ?

last week he had a decent game, where he got to out physical a similar sort of player. completely the wrong player for today, might have given him the call over norburn in the centre of midfield, but albie morgan was a better bet. really missed dougal today.

Using the same metric to pronounce your season as far from over and ours doomed unless we change manager. Seems logical.

Let's be fair, you're not going to make the playoffs.

You're also on your rival's messageboard on a Sat night you sad bastard.

A nobber comment that isn’t too far from the truth.
If we lose against Forest Green on Tuesday he has to go !

Just seen Critchley ' s assessment of the game which seems accurate enough. What to do about it though ? I think the wing back set up isnt working. Does he have another idea/ strategy or what players does he think aren't good enough ? I think Sadler is unlikely to sack him but something needs to change.

We struggle against these big clogger teams. Beat the skill teams
We clearly need to have a word with the managers of these 'big clogger teams' and ask them, nicely, to maybe consider adopting a more genteel, aesthetically-pleasing style of play which won't offend the sensibilities of those of us blessed with what can only be described as a slightly delicate disposition. I daren't think what kind of response this is likely to provoke, but what do we stand to lose? I mean, can it really get any worse than the shambles we all had to sit through today!?

It won't, he knows better than us

Still in Cambridge; just sat in a pub with a load of their lads. Their view: great support, Cambridge are a really crap team, grateful for the 3 points. My view: if you keep doing the same thing over and over again it doesn’t make it right.

My view: if you keep doing the thing over and over again expecting a different result, that's a sure sign of madness.

Thing is I have no problem with keeping Critchley and it is too early to sack him given the form table , the problem i do have is he simply refuses to learn from his dreadful mistakes .

Obviously I don't see Blackpool's matches but I'm amazed at how much anti-Critchley sentiment there seems to be. He only returned in May and Blackpool are eighth. I fully expect you to beat FGR comfortably and still think you'll finish in the play-offs. I certainly can't think of a better option out there to replace Critchley It's only three weeks ago you were thrashing Pompey, though the following result at home to The Cobblers was just the sort to frustrate supporters.

If you saw them, you would agree as well. We should be higher than 8th but Critchley plays a formation that doesn't suit the players and restricts them massively.
