Look at Tom Cannon that was supposed to be nailed on to join the Knobbers on loan again this season.
There are now 3 or 4 Championship clubs after him willing to pay a fairly decent transfer
Everton were asking for a £1m loan payment... The moment that became knowledge, the offers started flowing in
PKE were out of the bidding unless Everton took flags as payment, then in came Sunderland, Birmingham & Stoke.
Last offer was £8m but even that's been topped by an Italian club....supposedly he will go for £10m+ and he's only done half a season with PKE

All it does is show us up for not having any understanding of player value. Our attempts to sign players for money also suggest the same thing. We sold Yates on the cheap, and have struggled to sign a replacement because other clubs DO understand the value of their players.
These figures might sound ridiculous, but that doesn't mean it isn't the going rate.

Jerry might not "actually" be worth say 5 million, but at current market values thats what we should have asked for if we had anyone With any balls doing the negotiations.

No he isn’t coming here. I was just amazed at the fee that Sheff Utd are prepared to pay for him. The cost of players now is just spiralling out of control in my view
Well several posters were foolish enough to think you meant he was. TBF he scored 11 goals in half a season at Boro and was part of the England U-21 side that won the Euros. Given his potential £18m might be the going rate; I'm not sure why Villa sold him really.

Archer is at a premiership club highly rated and had 2 successful loans spells hence the higher price

Nobody wanted him for more than that
you have to work with the variables you are presented with in revenue management. Perhaps would have been worth more to keep him if he was guaranteed 20+ goals and another promotion, but the lad wanted to leave and we needed to let him in order for us to be able to attract the next Jerry. The more seasons we spend in the Championship, and the more Jerrys we produce, the more they will go for in future. Remember we’re starting from the market value and bargaining power we inherited from the Oystons. It takes time and consistency to build from that.Micky Walsh
