Can we enjoyed the rest of the season now

Just keep playing like we are doing, and with the new additions plus players back from injury we'll be fine.

Some twists and turns to come yet but it's looking better and better as teams around us play their games in hand but don't seem to get much closer. When the figures say we can't go down I will raise a glass, until then I'll have everything crossed.

Remember that night vividly.
Cry on a 30yring my eyes out whilst my old man tried to console me by saying...."Dont worry son they'll be back next year"

Only took us 30 years!!!
I think we were done up like kippers that night..... Cardiff not lost at home all season, Orient not won away all season, lots of to me to you on the pitch, & whoops Orient score, Blackpool on a 30yr hell ride downwards

Iโ€™m another one who probably hasnโ€™t been quite the same since 1978, certainly in the way I look at the league tables anyway.
We certainly shouldnโ€™t go down, and probably only need a handful more points, but then we only needed that in January 2011, and February 1978.
A bit of strengthening this week and no real worries though.

Obviously the majority of the "look up" brigade are of a certain age.

There is nothing wrong with positivity but there are some on here of a certain vintage that remember when there was only a small % of results that could go against us did.

I'd liken it to driving all the way home from London getting to the top of your street and the engine blowing up ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I think 45/46 should be enough.

But it is fourth and fifth bottom who you should look at as the place where the safety margin starts. If Derby continue as they have they could get comfortably clear.**

** fire sale permitting.

We absolutely definitely were. I was at Uni with a Cardiff fan, between 1981 to 1984 so it was still fresh in our minds. For the full 3 years, he denied anything dubious had happened. On the final day, he admitted it was a total fix. Knowing his character, I had no doubts then.

Iโ€™d like to see us get to 50 points at least and finish in a healthy position which will give the club confidence going into next season.
Finishing just above the relegation places wonโ€™t be ideal even if survival was our aim at the start of the season.

If you project the same ppg for each of the bottom 5, the highest end of season points tally is Cardiff with 41 points...Of course Derby might buck their early trend, but unlikely that they all will... So I suspect 42 points (possibly less) will be enough... 45/46 points will be certain safety IMHO.

I'd expect us to be on circa 55-60 in any case and we could easily push beyond that if things click for us๐Ÿ‘

yep, me too. Had a darts match at South Shore CC when the news came through. Stunned.

Yep, teams that tail off late in the season tend to struggle the season after.
I'm sure the Top Brass at BFC want to avoid that.
A comfy mid table finishing position would do very nicely, aiming to continue the momentum & steady upgrading of the squad.

Barring spectacular collapses, I can't see beyond the current bottom 6 for relegation - 5 if Hull maintain their new owner bounce.

'78 was a nightmare... I had a season ticket with my dad so saw most of the games... it seemed like every result went against us for weeks on end towards the end of the season and then that final gut-wrenching drop... that and Oldham away when we were relegated with a late goal from a sub (as I recall) are the worst two feelings I've had watching the mighty... I am feeling very positive this year though, so onwards and upwards!

I still bare the scars of the 77/78 season so l wonโ€™t be relaxing quite yet, but pleasing to see we are in a great position with teams below with a lot of work to do.
I seem to remember being at a match at Bloomfield Road just before Christmas when we were looking good for promotion. Chairman Billy Cartmell came on the pitch at half time and with a loudspeaker promised the fans that he would take us out of that division. He certainly did but the wrong way!

We beat T'Rovers 5-2 on 4 Feb 78 with 4 goals from Bob Hatton and if memory serves me right we were 5th in the league and from there it went downwards rapidly. Bob Hatton got injured, Cartmel sacked Alan Brown and the rest is history and very painful indeed. As Wizzerboy posted above it took 30 years to recover from that one season to get us back to where we belonged!

Just looked at the remaining fixtures and out of the final seven games 5 are away from home.48 points I think this year will be enough to stay up where in previous seasons 53pts was the benchmark.

After last Saturday, I am completely relaxed
Agreed. Millwall are near us in the table and were clearly inferior. Could be a one-off but not all the teams below us even once games in hand are taken into account, will go on the necessary run to worry us, plus we would need to pretty much capitulate and we looked very comfortable on Sat which bodes well.

There are four clubs currently earning less than a point a game, and while somebody will undoubtedly fall back towards them, I'd expect some or all of them to raise their PPG performance too. It's not the plumpest of cushions, by any means.

So I think 42 is pushing it, personally, but obviously agree with you that 45/46 is probably alright. And I share your confidence in us getting significantly more.

'78 was horrendous. Odds would have been huge. I remember us needs to win the last 4 games one year and we did to stay in L1.
We never seem to do well in Feb/Mar historically so for me another 2 wins should do it.

I wish people would stop rushing us to the end of the season. There's plenty of football to be played and much to fight for. I shall be looking both up and down.

No until it's mathematically impossible for us to go down then the cigar will get lighted.
Couldnโ€™t agree moreโ€ฆI am of the generation that witnessed us going down after being in the top six in February having won two home games scoring 5 in each only to implodeโ€ฆadmittedly because we had as obnoxious owners as you know who,who sacked a successful manager because he was the owner and knew better and didnโ€™t like to be challenged.
I was at Palace when we drew 2 2 and thought that was going to be enough to stay up but guess what it wasnโ€™t.So all of you saying we are safe, no we are not yet there.

We've been safe since before Christmas, the bottom three are ** abysmal.

I don't care what happened in the 70s, it's completely irrelevant, hopefully we can release a bit of pressure now and play with more freedom.
