Casey appears to be the new Jordan Thorniley. Does basic centre back stuff well and AVFTT absolutely wets its collective pants over it

He got the ball off Marv and moved it on, played the easy ball, headed it straight up in the air a couple of times. He was fine.

Husband did the basics and also carried the attack to them at times. He's been our best player this season and is underappreciated.

All-in-all, we really need some attackers!

Both Casey and Husband have been excellent so far. Ekpiteta has been the weak link but we know he's quality and have confidence he'll come good. Actually, defensively he hasn't been bad, just his jittery nervous erratic passing.

It wasn't really aimed at you. I just haven't seen anything out of the ordinary from him. It's not like he's keeping us in games. He's just heading it (usually well) and kicking it away and passing it to the nearest team-mate.

He definitely looks good enough to have in the squad though. Sort of player who won't let you down.

Casey played really well, make some good blocks and was a good outlet with the ball at his feet too, he's looking very assured.

From what I've seen there has to be a place for Pennington in the back 3. Of all the centre backs he is the most comfortable on the ball and plays with more urgency. He is the one more likely to get the ball forward quickly instead of the pedestrian pace we saw last night.

Agreed.
Not only is he a great defender he also created a lot of good stuff up front.
He put in loads of good crosses, much better than the 'big dipper' lobs than some in our team think pass as crosses.
Husband is my first name on the team sheet.

Why does the ball spin off his head when he heads it? Not really a criticism but if people are having a go at Ekpiteta for bad passing, thought I might as well join in.

There is a case for him playing over Marv. I think we'd miss Marv's defending though. He does make those crucial blocks and clearances that aren't run of the mill. We haven't actually conceded a single goal yet.

On the ball he is frightening. Needs someone to pass it to and movement has been lacking since the first half against Burton.

That was a big difference between Maxi and Grimmy, Maxi was very good at releasing the ball much quicker and sometimes led to a goal or two.

Maybe play Marv on the right of the back 3, so he's not so exposed on the ball, as his defensive work is generally excellent.
Could play Marv, Casey, Pennington, with Hubby LWB and Lyons on the right. Norburn, Morgan, and Weir in midfield, and Joseph & Dale up top.
And use CC as the utility for wherever the problem lies.

Marv had the benefit of playing with Ballard and then Keogh who used the ball very well, once he lost those partners and it was up to him he was exposed badly both last season and this so far. I'm not sure what the answer is though with 3cbs unless it's to move him out of the middle but then it depends on if he can play as a wide cb. He's been poor though.

He only played with Ballard 8 times. He played more, and we were more successful when he was partnered with Gretarsson.
