Charlie Mulgrew

Just seen on Jonny Hulme's twitter that us and Fleetwood are linked with him anyone know if there's any truth in this.

Just checked on wiki and they have him scoring 27 goals in 100 appearances for Blackburn . Really? For a centre half that seems very impressive.

Yep, really. He was phenomenal in his first season at Blackburn. Couldn't stop scoring and he took penalties. He scored for Blackburn against us at Bloomfield Rd. Was a shock for me to see him loaned to Wigan last season. He must have had a bust up with Mowbray.

He'd be well worth £3000 pw but not 10,000.or awt like that though his mate kipre would be well worth 10,000

Used to have him and Craig Conway on either side of my house.

Conway was a nice fella. Mulgrew was a vvanker. Can’t see him being good for the dressing room. Just anecdotal but I can’t see him being good for the squad.

Didn't he play the first half of last season for Wigan but cut short the loan in January? During that period Wigan were crap and that was why they got into trouble, which is not a good advert and suggests to me he is past his best. He also hasn't played since then and had no pre-season, so I have real doubts about this one, even if true

My understanding from some Rovers fans I know is that he is actually not very good at defending , which is not good for a centre half!

Good pedigree and bags of experience to bring but not sure what level he’s at now, well past his best. If the deal is cheap enough bring him in if NC thinks he can still do a job at the level we should be attaining. If he’s being greedy let him go to the the Cods.

Setting aside the fact that the twitter account that has posted this appears to be another teenage attention seeker, Mulgrew doesnt match a single criteria of the type of player Critch has brought in this summer.
I think the fact it doesn't match Critch's criteria is even more reason for a signing like this. I'm impressed with the way dealings have gone so far but I'm sure Critch is well aware that we need some real experience on the field. I don't know whether Mulgrew is a leader?organiser but it's there we're lacking.
Critch hasn't ruled out an older head when he said it doesn't matter whether they are 18 or 35, if they improve the team we sign them.

Maxwell, Husband & Thorniley all have Championship experience.
This guy sounds much more like the stereotypical Fleetwood signing, someone looking for one last pay day after dropping down a division.

I see what you're saying about this guy but I still think we need an out and out roll up your sleeve leader on the pitch. I wouldn't say Thornilly falls into that category after 20 odd matches trying to establish himself. I'm not sure Husband is that type either. Maxwell maybe but it's difficult for a keeper unless it's on and around the box.

Not if he's played as a fly sweeper keeper, which wouldn't surprise me 😆

He signed a new long term contract at rovers last year, but then had some sort of massive fall out with the manager, who wants him out.
He was one of their key players up until then. Commanding centre half, scored double figures in goals the season before last too. He's certainly more than good enough at League one level. We wouldn't get better. He says he just wants to play football.
