Charlie Patino in shirt again

The facts are that he’s an over hyped kid who’s been bigged up by a bunch of FIFA generation Arsenal fan boys who’ve seen him boss a few junior games and it made them put him on a pedestal as if he was the next Iniesta. He’s a little boy playing men’s football, he’s not physically up to it right now and although he has ability, my prediction from day one is that he will never be at the level where he plays for Arsenal’s first team on anything like a regular basis. None of this is his fault, but his sending off was absolutely stupid tonight.

A promising young player who needed championship level experience with the protection of experienced DM's around him. He hasn't had that here because we failed to sign a championship quality DM in the summer, then only managed to sign players who weren't match fit in January, hence the injuries.

I'm a little surprised Arteta hasn't recalled him already. Started well but a poor mid season.

Yes it was a silly challenge last night, but he isn't a tackling midfielder and not, in my view, someone who MM would use a lot but for injuries to others. He's been ineffective in several games because either our midfield has been over run or the ball has been flying over his head. It's not worked out but not entirely the lad's fault.

Can't believe how people have turned on him, the same people who gave him hero status earlier in the season. The difficult but for me is that Charlie and Carey together hasn't worked all season, we all know it, MA got slated for doing it, yet here we were again doing exactly the same under MM. The only difference is rather than get overrun in midfield, we now bypass it completely.

Daft sending off but he'll learn from it. Nonsense Sun story and those wanting to 'get rid' should give their heads a wobble! He's lacking confidence atm and needs a few games on the bench. I've seen enough to know he is classy and can do a job in the right circumstances; whether that's in a team that is on a long winless streak is another question.

The boy is incredibly talented and Arsenal will have learnt a lot as will he from his time here. Given time and space he has shown an ability to finish and an eye for a pass.
He has improved the physical aspects of his game (which is frankly why he is here) and compared to the start of the season, competes in the air and enters 50/50 tackles.

So from a developmental stand point he is getting what Arsenal want. Throw in he is having to cope with the strain of a relegation battle and replacement manager, he will be richer for his season here.

The issue for me is that he is not ready to be a ‘6’ in this league. Maybe in the Prem he can do it or even La Liga but he screams out being an ‘8’ the role that Carey is fulfilling.

Compare him also to Shaun Longstaff. Wasn’t he smashing in goals in his time here but a total lightweight and a defensive liability? He’s now had 3 years of being a key Prem midfielder and looks the complete package. He’s keeping out huge signings and holding his place. He too would have learned from playing here in a shit team and had the issue of Scum as owners and pissed off fans.

Not good enough. I doubt he will play in the top flight in the future but good luck to him. Just add it to the long list of poor recruitment this summer.

Thought Mick should have subbed him at half time !
It was ludicrous that MM (with over 1000 games experience) couldnt see there was a big chance he would get sent off. When I spoke to my son on the phone about the first half we both thought he should be taken off before he was sent off. The kid even gave a sight of what was to come when he clashed with one of their players about five mins earlier. No excuses for MM there and he should have been subbed.

In a proper set up with experienced midfielders next to him he’s a key player, like Wilshire was when he went to Bolton. It was the wrong move for him here.

I think he gives us his all. But I really don’t think he’s as good as our fans or Arsenal fans think.

He should have gone to League One to wisen up and grow up a bit. Similar to TJJ actually in that he has all the ability in the world but no football knowledge.

He's not going to get anything approaching knowledge from McCarthy beyond 'get stuck in lad or I'll take you off'.

Bar the PNE goal. What has he actually done prior to Mick? Can’t remember him running the show anywhere tbh. Half a good game at QPR?

Not loads but he's been dealt a bad hand with the managers he's had and being injured for 8 or 9 weeks. Appleton for all his talk of 'attacking expansive football' was safety first and then this dinosaur lumbers on to the scene, never had a chance really.

Somebody put on here that Arsenal wanted him to play abroad in Begium but his dad wanted him to play in the Championship you can now see why Arsenal were in the right

Good enough that Barcelona are tracking him.
Good enough that Arteta rates him highly.
Good enough for a starting place in England U21 team at 18

Not good enough for your miserable whining

Good enough for Barcelona. Just spat my Cafe Nero Coffee out. Wasn’t a pretty sight.

He isn’t good enough for Blackpool never mind flipping Barcelona.

Patino is clearly talented and will go far. When it rains it pours and he is young so the relegation battle, constant injuries to team mates will have left him abit lost.

Any team that gets regular red cards is a frustrated one. The lads want the wins as much as we do but it just won’t fall for us.

Yet it is highly reported and has been for 2 years. Even just 3 months ago

You do embarrass yourself at times 62.

The Sun in printing absolute bollocks shocker!

Patino is being put in the shit by the lack of a decent dm to help him out, that and the tactics of lumping the ball out from the back. He's then expected to create chances with the ball constantly sailing over his head, God forbid that he should actually show some frustration with a couple of, admittedly, silly tackles.

Madines sending off, with his experience, is seriously more disappointing than a young, relatively inexperienced midfielder picking up a couple of yellows. Perhaps he could have been protected by taking him off after the first one he got?

Let's face it, if MM was in charge at the start Arsenal would never in a million years allow him to come here. He was played as a 6 for us out of neccessity because of our injuries when he really isnt. He's a 19 Yr old passing technical midfielder, an 8 or a 10. Just cos he tries to tackle doesn't mean he's great at it, look at Paul Scholes. He's been in a difficult position anchoring a midfield with no experience around him and now it's been made worse that MM has come in with Mick Ball and is bypassing his strengths by hoofing it and wanting him to do the dirty stuff which is a weakness.

Who were interviewed by the Sun? Shame on them for that alone.

Had exactly the same discussion with my lad and that Patino was a sending off waiting to happen. Both bookings he was too slow getting there, which has been obvious throughout his time with us. He is too weak physically and his lack of pace will limit his career potential. He can’t get away from players and they easily leave him in their wake. Unfortunately for him, pace can’t be coached.

I’ve been amazed that he’s played so often and it strikes me there might be some contractural obligation, or additional cost to us, if he doesn’t start.

Sonny Carey is a talent and he’s only going to get better, particularly when released to do what he’s best at. Him and Jerry benefitted hugely from Poveda coming on last night.

If you asked anyone who didn’t know, it’d be Sonny that is the Arsenal starlet.

I’m not raging about Patino, the lad has tried his best. The problem has been his regular starting selection, when he obviously needs greater protection around him.

I feel sorry for him. Like so many others he’s being asked to play a different role. He was brought in more as a play maker rather than a ball winner and because of injuries, suspensions and - more importantly lack of Board investment in that position - he’s one of only a dwindling handful who play in midfield. He was foolish last night and he’s probably as frustrated as the rest of us are, but he’s only a boy and all the criticism he’s getting is unfair. Blame the Board. We all saw this coming, why didn’t they?

As I said last night, he was brought in to do something for us that we as a club never allowed to materialise.

He’s got no blame attached for any of this. Last night was daft and a bit immature, but that’s why we get people like him, so he can learn about stuff like that and how to stop it happening later in his career.

Tragically, the value for us of having a commanding, flowing attacking talent has never been allowed to be realised. It’s our fault as a club not his.

We’ve wasted a year of his career.

i don’t think people are turning on him as such, he’s been poor for a few weeks now and supporters are just voicing that (from what i’ve seen)but the one thing i’ll agree with is him and carey do not work in the championship as our midfield, no way. I’m not keen on Carey (nothing personal) but he had a great second half and hopefully will kick on now.

I do think Charlie has been overhyped as a post above mentions but ffs he’s only a young lad starting off in the game.

Sorry but I think that's absolute nonsense

Patino isn't the problem, it's the total failure to find a decent midfielder(s) with some experience to play alongside him. We've brought in two in Bridcutt and Trybull and both ended up on the treatment table (which is still a self inflicted problem because they were both injury prone).
He's a very good player who's effectively been thrown under a bus by the club because of our transfer failings.

I think the weather and pitches have affected his game . He's not that physical in the first place ,but playing in wind ,rain and sleet on pitches that are bumpy and sodden must be draining . He needs to be dropped until he can handle it. Its not so easy putting passes through on lumpy pitches with 30 mph winds and that was his main ability.

Yep bang on that

It's all down to the short sighted transfer policy

No I don't think so . His ability was to make passes and move into positions that split defences . He did this well on flat pitches with hardly any strong winds or sleet . Now the pitches aren't as flat ,playing in this weather is draining even for stronger players and in strong winds its harder to make those passes. What other stand out abilities does he have , he's not tall ,he's not fast and he's not physical . Basically becomes useless.

A large part of the problem last night was Carey and Patio were playing in each others positions, Patio is an attacking midfielder Carey is a defensive one. As to those writing off Fiorini we must have been watchimg him play different matches because he has class. None of those guys will save from the drop however the damage was done last summer.

🤡 🤡 🤡 🤡 Thought you were critical of people telling MM what to do as you say he knows best. Yet here you are criticising Patino and saying he should be dropped. Hypocrite. Yet your beloved CJ is tall is fast but he's not physical, crap in the air, can't control a ball. can't cross a ball. Are you still on the Titanic?

I would take Fiorini any day before Patino. As you say he has class which was apparent to anyone who has half a football brain.

It's amazing how one of our loaned young players can go from hero to zero in the eyes of some of our 'FIFA Game Manager' supporters.
One week Charlie's signing shirts, mixing with supporters & being rightly praised in the Armfield club. Now he should never wear our shirt again & should be sent down the M6 to London! I hope Charlie doesn't read this shoite.
He's made an error of judgement, but it can't be compared to what experienced Gaz did last week.
The aggression in Charlie's play may derive from MM's instructions at Squires Gate "get stuck up their midfielders" etc.
Our disciplinary record this season is atrocious. It's cost us points & will cost the club money when we receive a club fine.
Support Charlie, don't slate the lad. He's still developing and needs managing carefully by MM & TC.

What I have said is we should get behind MM as he is our manager for the rest of the season . I also said he was doing the right thing making certain players work harder . I have never said he is perfect and I have my own ideas about the team. Anyway why do you keep putting a load of your pictures in the front of your posts.
