Charlton v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 27.02.21

Well being in bed all day it seems I've missed another cracking performance by the Mighty, (all week night shifts no good for anyone 😡).

Great result from a difficult fixture, roll on Tuesday, the Crewe game is another difficult tester let's hope we continue with this cracking form.
This is bound to be another cracker as I'll miss it all again 😥

If you're a season ticket holder then you can tune into iFollow for the full match any time of day over the 24 hours from kick off.

Yes, it's wordy and long winded but WHY WOULDN'T YOU WANT TO LUXURIATE IN RELIVING THAT DISPLAY? EH?
Very good read.
In particular I loved this statement :
Yates, stands. relaxed as you like, hand on hips but all casual, like an elegant vase in a stylish 18th century drawing room, as opposed to a pompous teapot stance.

Just had a watch of Crewe v Sunderland. They are a smart outfit. Small team and quick movement / passing as you'd expect from a Crewe side.

They should have destroyed the Mackems today. They were 2 up and missed a sitter for a third. Sunderland scored 2 absolute worldies to get the tie. Gonna be a tough game on Tuesday.

They just work hard Crewe and you never know what problems they'll cause you as anyone can pop up. Charlie Kirk is a threat off the left. Gabriel/Turton will have their hands full on Tuesday night I think stopping the service into the box.

Tried to control them in the away game but they waited until we ran out of steam with the high press then stepped it up a gear. We had to go direct to get a point and it was probably the first time we saw NC dropping the Liverpool (as they were) copy attempt for something more sensible late on. Load the box and get a cross in for a knock down.

We have quite a few players who could handle the Championship, and some who have done. Maxwell, Gabriel, Ballard, Gretarsson, Garbutt, Dougall, Stewart, Ward, Madine, Simms and Hamilton have either played that level or will do. And others too, I'm sure. Thorniley even has done ok in Championship games, allegedly. 36 points from 18 games despite a spell with a lot of key players missing with injury or Covid. If we manage to keep a strong defensive line up for the next two months we should climb the table, and finishing strong is always a good entry point to the play offs. The central defence injury situation is the main cause for concern, for me.

Well deserved win with a very nice balance to the side. Looks like Critch is starting to believe that 442 is the best system for us to use. I personally didn't think that the ref was as bad as everybody is making out. He made a couple of whoppers ( Yeats' yellow being one ) but Charlton showed a nasty streak in their play today and they got the reds that they deserved for me.
He also gave us a very dodgy pen!.

After the match finished, I mulled it over and thought the first half was our best 45 minutes this season. I didn't put it on here at halftime as I did when we played Doncaster because that second half was disastrous.
