Cheated out of Fiorini

Can’t agree more Kurt as he played that first 30 mins or so like he’s never been away and how much have we missed him? 5 1/2 months he’s been out and it’s robbed both him and us of his full potential.

Who knows?

Before injury he looked good in some games and weak in others. He seems to have a decent range of pass, but is a bit powder puff…

That injury has cheated us out of watching the lad for the last few months. Brilliant first half. A proper passing midfielder and the zip he puts on it too.

Might be the little ball playing midfielder we needed to get this revival going.
Yep, he had a good game until subbed.
He showed composure in those packed midfield areas, and spread the play well with his diagonals. Hope he's fit enough to play a full 90 ASAP. Also Hope Phils post turns out to be true, but I don't think he'd come of we didn't stay up.

Edit, I wouldn't say that the half passed him by, but the ball was in the air a lot (both teams) which passed both midfields by. When he did have the ball, I thought he used it well

Pretty on the ball and a good range of passing, but he never got anywhere near smallbone though, his work of the ball is not good enough

Agreed. Looked like a classy little player out there for the first 30 ish minutes.

Range of passing was something that no other player in this squad is capable of.

Reminded me of some of this lovely half pitch balls the Holloway squad seemed to do at ease.

It might be bollux but it certainly makes sense as to why we didn't send him back
Whether he is or he isn't, this is the sort of signing we need permanently.

Obviously we need a mix, with some ball winners, like a faster, stronger Dougall and good on the ball if we are to progress. Trybull, but he's approaching 30 now.

We need to build a footballing philosophy.

We can have a team that plays football, is also tough in the tackle and tough to beat and can mix it up and go long even needed.

But we need to stop signing sick notes, be better in the market and get more gems. Also stop chopping and changing the philosophy and build a proper club way.

The Blackpool way, as Mansford said, but it be more than just words.

I hope we can stay up and do it as with the new recruitment guys they can hopefully help build this.

Composure, weight of pass and forward thinking. The ball to Poveda was class. Hope he can stay fit.

Dougall grafted his knackers off but was pony on the ball. Just relax.
Dougall is all effort and little skill, he wouldn't be near that team if we had sorted out the defensive midfield roles properly.

I though Connolly or Maxi were man of the match today.

Fiorini is just about in our price range valued at around £750,000

Rogers is double that so I doubt we could sign him

The failure to recognise what Dougall brings to our team has been out undoing in the first half of this season…. An unsung hero imho
He is an unsung hero because he has been ever present whilst those around break like balsa wood, but if Stewart, Bridcutt and Trybull were all fit he would be 4th choice. He gives 100% but for me he falls short of Championship standard. He's too betwixt and between the 2 roles in midfield and we really need a tough defensive central midfielder who can distribute the ball accurately much more.

He was great last season in a side that finished on a comfortable 60 points… He’s been solid and improved us this season too.

We’ve certainly fallen short of Championship standard when leaving him on the bench.

He has his moments, I think it was him who played a good through ball for poveda 2nd half, but Poveda looked knackered.

You know exactly what you'll get with Dougall.

100% effort, closing down, winning the ball.

He's not always brilliant, good and bad games, passing isn't always the best but not as bad as some say. Has some moments of quality.

Right now the whole team was being wasteful with the ball.

We've looked far more competitive since his return.

Reminiscent of Barry Ferguson the way he looks around for the best option when
running with the ball.
A great midfield option to have if he can stay injury free for the rest of the season.
Definitely worth a punt if we got offered the option to purchase.

Got to agree about Kenny I sometimes feel we need someone stronger especially in the air but I think we may not be utilizing his skills to the maximum.
Kenny is usually playing a deep role (needs must) and all that, but I like to see him given a more of a free role as against Nottingham forest.
He then make tackle's all over the pitch and is second only to Jerry for his closing down of defenders trying to play out from the back.the lad oozes energy, even his critics will agree on that.he can also create chances and assists as we saw against Forest, for CJ goal.
And in the final third he is always likely to get us a goal.
Before critizing a misplaced pass or whatever in future just think that he might be putting the team first and not necessary playing to his own strengths.

Absolutely agree with that. He's as reliable as we have! ** love him tbh, despite his flaws.

Fiorini went off at HT.
He did of course give the ball to Poveda for his goal.
He didnt contribute hugely tbf, 16 touches, 5/10 accurate passes but he was part of a winning team just like he was when he last played so well done Lewis.
I'm sure there's lots more to come. 👍

I'm replying to Hertford about Dougall in the post you've quoted....

After such a long time away, 5/10 passing accuracy is to be expected and probably the average in this team
But the goal assist proved he has the ability to see a pass and actually make it
Hopefully he will get match fit and be the playmaker we have lacked

Fiorini is good on the ball when given time and space. He was clearly marking Smallbone who gave us all sorts of problems first half and didn’t really notice him (Smallbone) second half so could’ve just been a good tactical move by MM. Benefit of the doubt with him being unfit but we’ll see how much he features once Patino is available.

He’s also a young lad who can improve so he could do a job for us. I’m guessing, as someone else stated, the reason he stayed when injured so long is because he’s already agreed to stay.

“Reminiscent of Barry Ferguson” - unless you mean his shadow, you’re way off for me. Ferguson was extremely solid defensively and kept the ball and tempo ticking away. Watch Fiorini off the ball in the next game he plays, you’ll see how he lets his man run off him constantly.

On Dougall. He's needed atm. We know his limitations in the passing dept., but he can have good spells in games. Personally, when he's 'trapped' deep he gives the ball away far too often, or just inspires panic with wrong passes. Playing with a little more freedom slightly further up he doesn't have the same instinct to just get rid and is far better.

Fiorini was a massive plus first half- great ball for the goal and even better one before that- and it was great to see MM actually try and go out and win the game from the off, rather than this, 'keep it tight until the last 20 then bring on the big guns' bollux. Penny dropped. That said it will be defensive v Rovers I think. Just makes me angry to think we've thrown 4 points away by not playing this way (certainly 2) and then the table looks a bit different.

I had speculated weeks ago that I wondered whether LF was being kept on as a deal was in place. I hope @Phil_bfc deux has heard this elsewhere.

We've certainly missed a player like Fiorini massively this season - someone with passing ability who has quality on the ball. Carey and Patino have both shown flashes, but have been very inconsistent, and Fiorini seem to me a different kind of player anyway.
On Dougall, he's a battler, and he's positionally very good too. In the Huddersfield game, just before we equalised they got in behind us and had 2-on-1, and KD was the player who was there to prevent a goal. That's what you get from him. All teams need that kind of player. Should we be looking to improve on him - yes of course. But right now he's the best we've got and he does make a difference, even in this league.
