Chromebook not loading avftt

I guess I have but only become a problem the last two days. Funny that it is only this site. Bit of a head scratcher.

Yeah, fine for such things. If you can find one cheap enough with 8gb ram, I'd get that as they really fly and as the operating system is so light (it's essentially just chrome and a very basic file browser) they don't slow down over time.. I've had several over the years - I've currently got an Asus CX5400 and it's very nice though that's a fairly 'premium' model.

I'd disable ALL your extensions and try again. Then if I'd works, switch the extensions back on one by one. Even if an extension seems to have nothing to do with the problem, you sometimes get weird clashes between them. Somewhere in chrome is a toggle to switch all extensions off at once.

Chromebooks are awesome, I use mine for work every day and swapped from apple Mac. No more long updates, or virus issues just the occasional restart which takes < 10 seconds. Disclaimer I may be a touch biased as Google is my employer 🤣

Also, if you have an old laptop that won't run new versions of wimdoze take a look at installing Chrome Flex https://chromeenterprise.google/intl/en_au/os/chromeosflex/
 
Never had one but we have a couple we use in the Kids program at church but I find them slow and clunky compared to my ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo laptop but probably on a par with the Dell Latitude 5230 that DWP have provided since I moved to blended (2 days a week in the office, 3 days a week working from home).

Would I consider buying one? Well if I just needed something light & portable for web browsing, email, social media & an office suite and was starting from scratch, then maybe, but as my laptop is easily portable, I'm unlikely to buy one

Just to point out, your laptop is close to two grand. My chromebook cost 250 quid.and I bought it precisely to browse, email and use some dedicated apps; nothing more. So yes, to have an all singing and dancing machine, you wouldn't choose a chromebook, but we are comparing apples (no pun intended) with oranges.

There's Chromebooks and Chromebooks.

If you use an old cheap one, it will be slow. If you use a fast new one it won't.

I've got a framework i7 with 16gb of ram for work and it's great. I can't really do my own stuff on it though so I need a laptop of my own. My own Chromebook is an i3 with 8gb of ram and it's fast as you'd ever need.

To be fair, aye. I've done a bit of editing on mine, I've recorded music on one too. I use mine with Lightroom as well.

It's just not as easy as it otherwise could be for some stuff.

There's a lot more engineering happening now to push the processing to the back end. Look for fully featured versions of Adobe products as web apps coming out.

Yeah, good point again.

You've still got certain issues with some things, e.g. latency in sound recording but yeah, there is no doubt the cloud is the future for much of what we do on a computer.

Not disagreeing with anything you say, I was just pointing out that a Chromebook isn't always the right answer. I certainly wouldn't want to be Batch Processing a 100+ 30Megapixel Canon RAW images in Lightroom on one.

I did also comment that the Chromebooks I've used were on a par performance wise with my (soon to be handed in) work laptop

I did also state that, were I starting from scratch with the intended uses you refer to I'd also go the Chromebook route, but as I already have my laptop I don't see the need for me to have one

Hi Tangerine Bayern,

If I said the words Cartmel racecourse to you can probably work out who I am. I don't recommend a chromebook to anyone wishing to use Microsoft office. As Chromebooks are made by google, they advocate the use of google docs/sheets and use of microsoft office is limited to an online version which is subpar to actual microsoft office. They are lightning fast and great for internet use, beyond that I think they lack alot of functionality.
Just my experience of being a student with one. I personally much prefer my Macbook, but it all depends what you require from it

Indeed l can work it out and with the 49/92 too 🤣🤣🤣. Thanks for the advice that’s what l thought so think I'll stick to my laptop given the small amount of time l actually spend using it.👍👍

The online version of MS Office is crap because it's Microsoft, not built for scale, security but has lots if nice feature widgets you use hardly ever. I'd recommend Google Workspace over office every day of the week, this is from someone who used MS for 25 years before moving to the Google stack.
