City vs Spurs - late referee howler

Great match..well done to Spurs for hanging in and then getting a late equaliser.

However, what an absolute howler by the referee in the last couple of minutes. Foul on Haaland which he was about to blow for but clearly waved play on when Haaland recovered his balance. He then played a great ball over the top of Spurs defence for Grealish. Ref then blew his whistle when the ball landed by Grealish.

Unknown whether Grealish would have gone on to score but he was clear and heading for a 1 on 1 with the keeper. Only the ref knows why he pulled play back.

Like them or not - clearly the ref is waving for advantage to be played then inexplicably blows his whistle and brings it back - cannot wait for the explanation

Expect the referee to be demoted for the next match.

I seem to remember a similar decision went against us at home last season. Cant remember the game though.

Keeps the league interesting for a little while longer before city steamroll everyone.

Why don’t Man Utd go and get Ramsdale from Arsenal? Onana is a clown.

Remember Trevor Sinclair wonder goal against Port Vale!
The ref blew his whistle and awarded us a free kick
I think there was another occasion at Southampton where GTF scored a late equaliser only to be awarded a nothing free kick.

When your betting slip has the following…

- Spurs Win or Draw
- Son to score anytime
- Both teams to score

It was the correct decision! 🤣

My other fell short at Haaland to score anytime for £80, so as much as a bad mistake it was, the look on his face said it all, like a rabbit in headlights, he knew he got it wrong!

It was brilliant entertainment for the neutral and probably most football fans and officiating was pretty good up to that point. At least it wasn’t a VAR decision.

exactly so the ref did them a favour.
Whether he would have or not, he should have played advantage.

This is a massive problem across English football, the amount of time that either

A) Advantage is played, zero advantage is gained and then the referee doesn't bring the foul back.
B) Advantage isn't played at all with a whistle trigger happy referee.

The standard of officiating across English football is about as bad as it ever has been.

He probably saw grealish would have been flagged offside
Nope he was onside so the ref should have played on - I think he did think Grealish was offside and / or was told to give the free kick for the foul but it was caotic tbh

I did though (apart this one major error) think the ref had a good game - he was rapid with all yellow cards (seemingly never putting it away) and it was an excellent match for neutrals with some good goals.

I rarely think any refs are that good and liberally criticise - I have no idea why he stopped play - it was the final throw of the dice for City so they were right to complain so much .

I still get annoyed when I think about that, to this day!

Surely the ref just noticed it was Grealish, realised there was no advantage, and awarded the free kick?

What's all the fuss about?
