CJ goal - great passing football

Great goal, flowing move, people need to be more patient with our build up play.

This is the sort of football we want to play and if we are to go up and stay up, we'll have to be far better on the ball than we were at times.

When winning especially people need to get behind the lads and enjoy the possession, draw the other team on and then you can pick them off like this.

CJ has had similar chances to that and fucked them up, including one previously this season that went out for a throw in. He looks a lot more confident and it's a brilliant finish.

And it's literally down to getting more space. If Dale isn't playing. And Connolly does. Their defence can over load CJ and he'll do fuck all with it as he can't beat 2 or 3 men sat on his toes like a Josh Bowler could. Isolate CJ against full backs or centre backs with space and he's effective. Expect him to do everything attacking wise on his own and he'll be useless.

They still put three men on him. CJ frightens defenders, it's a fact. But he can't be everything to everybody.

Absolutely superb from CJ and Jordon Rhodes in particular... Great give and go from CJ and Rhodes weights the return ball superbly... As Steve Evans acknowledged (as his former manager) CJ is a real class act at this level and he's a fantastic character too. The more we can suck sides in with good possession and passing the better we will become.... Hopefully Critchley can educate some of the "PASS IT FORWARD FFS" merchants...

And he's easily as effective and arguably moreso in L1 than Josh Bowler was in the Championship.

Not the first time this season that Jordan Rhodes has come deep like that and weighted the return ball perfectly into space.

I think that’s what you get with a goal scorer like that especially with his experience he knows where CJ wants it back

Finally starting to see CJ being used better.Rhodes,Dembele and Dougall are all linking up with him effectively

Rhodes did exactly what you need to be doing with Hamilton, he knocked it into the open space and he's able to run on to it. Hamilton will roast any left back in the EFL in a foot race, the lad was even in front of him and he just leaves him in the dust.

Putting it to his feet is mostly pointless, he'll beat someone occasionally that way but his main asset is his pace. Feels like we don't utilise that sometimes.

And what an unbelievable asset Rhodes is turning out to be, assisting goals as well as scoring every week.

I do not think many would swap Rhodes for Madine

I know he mentions it in his post match etc but it probably needs a specific clip to fans on FB and twitter etc, to be patient, that we're trying to play a certain way and it'll benefit us in the long run.

It won't always work but you can see some evidence of it in that goal.

I can understand some of the frustration when at times we've looked toothless, not moved it quick enough or when circumstances are different and we faffed about with it unnecessarily. But we are learning.

It also helps now we've got that long ball option to Kouassi and a chance it'll stay up there or be flicked on, they'll be less inclined to press as much knowing they can be so easily bypassed.

Also, as with the Dale goal, we passed it around then the space was behind so we went long but not aimlessly, to Carey, who then played it to Dale. That's another benefit of drawing them forward and exploiting the space.

Our fans aren't alone in lacking patience.... But we've got to be aware of the fact that sides will come and try to frustrate us, to get the crowd on Critchley and the player's backs and silence the atmosphere.... I mean Derby have some top class players and yet still sat deep and made life difficult...

That might mean that the game is sometimes going to involve long periods of possession, with much of it backwards and sideways. Increasingly games aren't really starting to kick off and open up until 60-70 minutes in.

The movement in the ball has been a lot better than it was a month ago.

We’re not going to consistently cut teams open because Critchley views possession as more of an instrument to control games instead of attacking, but playing with a midfield three has helped improve what we actually do when we have the ball.

He prefers us to be patient and draw teams out which can be frustrating as a fan, but when we expose teams like yesterday we can really play.

I hope he can prove himself at this level. Bowler did so at a higher level, that's a fact. You got to grips with the offside rule yet mary?

Rhodes was exactly what we needed .
We were creating chances but we couldn’t finish.
He rocks up and it’s a different story.

it's a classy goal and no mistake.

what i really like is that rhodes is clearly buzzing with his assist and enjoying returning the compliment to CJ.

we often think that class acts like JR and his nous and good habits will help to improve the other strikers. it seems clear to me that his magic is rubbing off on CJ and quite possibly others, all over the pitch. long may it continue.

I think he's helping many improve around him.

But also CJ has been with us a while, I think he's improved his end product and certainly added some defensive ability.

I think he's oit of contact at the end of the season, so it'll be interesting to see what we do.

Despite his critics he makes stuff happen that others can't do and many mangers pick him.
