Colby Bishop who was deemed an injury risk!! Scored 18 GOALS for Portsmouth having played 37games.We certainly know how to shoot ourselves in the foot.

In league 1 no guarantees in the Championship playing against better defenders and with how crap our midfield has been this season would he have got any service?

When we missed out on him and then Simms it was criminal we didn't go after 3/4/5 choice to find someone who could play up top on his own.

It also meant we have been in a position for most of the season without an alternative “big target man” option to change things around.

A couple of months ago someone I was discussing Bishop with suggested the breakdown was over an additional £200/week.
No idea if there is any substance to that though.

I think that there was an element of expectation that Jake Beesley could fill the void. If he could keep fit, he may still do. We should not judge him on his ability as a right winger.

It seems obvious that spending was being cut back, or watched very closely. The pursuit of Brannigan looks like The Great Pretend looking back (and for some at the time).

Thing is though, if we survive this season then it's clear we'll need a big revamp of the squad and to do that and survive next season is going to cost a hell of a lot more than what was needed last summer! Another own goal (think they are 0-5 down and it's not HT yet).

not convinced at all that it had anything to do with injury risk. Much more the likelihood that Pompey offered considerably more in wages than we did.

The suggestion at the time was the basic wages were similar, but he'd get more in bonuses in the top half of L1 than he would here.

The worst thing, is that BB is repeating Karl’s old failures. Was hoping we would see an end of this under SS:

101 excuses for missing out on key targets.

Over reliance on loans.

Signing injury prone journeymen.

Selling our best player(s) at the end of a window with no time to bring in a replacement.

Signing several cheaper options (who never play) for an important position, when 1 more expensive player would be a 1st team starter.

= False economy and no re-sale value to build stronger squad gradually

not heard that one before but it still comes down to the same thing - money! And I'd have thought that our income streams from the EFL which are significantly greater than a L1 club meant we should have been able to put ourselves in pole position for his signature.

It probably comes down to playing time, lots of game time and goals down there versus squad player status up here.

We offered a mill he failed the medical and went to Pompey for half price as damaged goods is nearer to the mark

So he took the time to come for a medical knowing that he'd earn more at Portsmouth?
It's maybe 45 mins from Accrington to SG, the medical probably takes a couple of hours, why shut down your options when the cost is a few hours when you're probably not doing anything anyway?

He didn’t sign because Laurel & Hardy fucked it up, like they’ve managed to fuck up a load more. It’s not just BB’s fault, the man at the top makes the decisions. Can’t hey just get on with running the infrastructure? Something they’re actually good at and get someone in who knows WTF he’s doing in to sort out he mess they have made or is it just down to money!

I think BM said at the meeting that they discovered an interview from when he was a teenager where an injury was mentioned, I don't think he failed a medical, seemed to be suggested that in doing their "research" they stumbled upon an interview.

And that’s why we call him Bullshît 😁

Making out we do some sort of due diligence when we repeatedly sign these crocks.

We’ve got an injury list longer than Blackpool Vic A&E. 😂

They were too slow. Should have acted quicker.

In fact, they should have signed him in the previous window when he had a slight niggling injury it was clear he would quickly recover from.
Everton dictate when the loan is taking place and this was in the August window so I'm not sure which window you're referring to? The loan fee and % of wage being paid by the club was exactly the same for both Sunderland and Blackpool and it was left up to the player choose which club. He chose to go to Sunderland. What we didn't have, as far as I know, was a follow-up loan option in terms of a striker.

It was December/January 22, before Hearts signed him on loan.

Well according to them we don't, think they pulled out a statistic that we actually have less injuries than last year and less than the average championship team. I'm surprised there wasn't more talk on here about that meeting to be honest, they basically dismissed every concern fans had and then threw out a "plus we plan on just ignoring the people who we get shit from anyway".

Bishop mystery injury felt like an excuse when we knew Simms was available, then managed to mess that up as well.
As potential theories on this go, I think the ‘we could get Simms instead’ thing was likely.

Pity we messed up and ended up with neither.

y had better service and the defenders would not be as good as the Championship .These stats prove nothing because Yates was scoring for fun in Div 1.
