I'm glad the club are being proactive.Seems AVFTT is running the club these days!
I can find fault. It should have happened in the summer.I'm glad the club are being proactive.
He has a wealth of experience across all areas of the game, as a player, coach and manager, throughout the divisions.
It's hard to find fault with this.
Can you have an Assistant Manager if there isn't a Manager?Good signing.
I take it an Assistant Head Coach is the same as an Assistant Manager?
Maybe one of them will be assistant to the Head Coach. So two assistant head coaches then
There’s the caretaker role sorted for three weeks time.
Many a true word and all that....I reckon Mansfords “hopefully” comment must have been with the imposition of an “assistant” in mind if things didn’t progress. I can’t see Critchley having much a connection with him at all. Let’s see what Coach has to say I suppose. There’s the caretaker role sorted for three weeks time.
I was only semi joking to be honest. I still think they'll want him coaching and developing the players. There is probably enough work to go around to keep both NC and CC busy.I was only semi joking to be honest. It’s the first thing I thought.
I think this is the death knell for poor Neil.
I think that would certainly have been the case if Colin Neil and Mike Garritty had all come in at the same time with Calderwood being the head coach and NC in the assistant role.I still think they'll want him coaching and developing the players. There is certainly the room for improvement
I don't think he'll drop down, I think Calderwood will take a fair bit of his workload away from him to allow him to concentrate on what he is best at.I think that would certainly have been the case if Colin Neil and Mike Garritty had all come in at the same time with Calderwood being the head coach and NC in the assistant role.
I can’t see NC now dropping down to be replaced, that would effectively kill your career.
Maybe I’m jumping the gun a bit but I immediately went to the last scenario you highlight.I don't think he'll drop down, I think Calderwood will take a fair bit of his workload away from him to allow him to concentrate on what he is best at.
They must have had this conversation prior to the appointment, and you'd imagine Critch must be on board with it, because if he isnt, he might as well start clearing his desk out now.
I see one of two scenarios playing out from this:Maybe I’m jumping the gun a bit but I immediately went to the last scenario you highlight.
Bringing in a more experienced ex manager doesnt happen very often with a head coach already in situ.
I this might make things worse in the short term.
I can see friction in that dressing room, feeding into the players.
I’ve been of the belief that if anyone comes in to ‘help’ Critch then he’s done for.I see one of two scenarios playing out from this:
1) Calderwood has been brought in with a clear definition of what his role will be, which will complement what Critch and the club are ultimately trying to do. Some of what Critch has never previously had to do prior to him joining us will be taken on by Calderwood, allowing everyone to excel at what they're experienced at doing.
2) Critch will be gone within 6 weeks.
Thats what I'm thinking, he hasnt only been a manager prior to joining us.He has plenty of experience as a no 2, perhaps that suits him.
It just proves the Board reads the Board.
What would be interesting to know is if the appointment is with Critch's blessing. Waiting for the ITKers to tell us.
Will soon find out ....It just proves the Board reads the Board.

It does seem now like if this doesn't lead to an upturn in results then Critch and Garrity are finished.I’ve been of the belief that of anyone comes in to ‘help’ Critch then he’s down for.
That's fair comment. It does seem now like if this doesn't lead to an upturn in results then Critch and Garrity are finished.
But, I am glad they've gone down this route, because it shows they have acted when clearly something isn't right, whilst at the same time still giving the process they set out to initially implement the time to come good.
Very very interesting, it goes to show we know a bit about football.
A very good move, a very experienced ex International player and a respected, experienced coach.
I can't see NC being particularly enamoured, or maybe he will be glad of the help and experience. If it works, it will be great, if it doesn't then we have a shoe in. O'd love to be a fly on the wall in the Critchley household and in the dressing room!!
That's my recollection too. This is an interesting retrospective look at his time as Forest manager, including the observation that "his stint at Hibs confirms that he still has a lot to learn about management".....Very good coach but a poor manager
Hopefully, a bit of steel.Good appointment. Be interesting to see what he brings.
