Come on SS - get the training ground sorted ..

He's playing great at Millwall, stats wise one of the best defenders in the championship, no surprise there.

It's gotta be a major hinderance to us (the portaloo on a field training ground we currently have) I imagine when you're considering 2 different clubs and one of them has a state of the art facility and the other has a shed with a kettle in it you might think "i don't wanna be in that shed in december"
A shed AND a kettle, yet people still moan

Does anyone know with any certainty whether we'll be building something that allows us to attain Cat 1 academy status, or are we going for something less ambitious?

They do highly value having a proper youth academy, I can't see why they would cut corners on it.

The idea is to follow the mould of Brentford.

That’s a tall order. I reckon Cat 2 with a view to Cat 1 in a few years. I believe it will be at least the equal of Poolfoot, if not better.

How long do we all reckon it will take from start to finish? Are we looking realistically at the 2023/24 season?

Firstly, I know nothing. OK?! So I'm just putting this out there for discussion/consideration. Please feel free to ignore!

"Bispham Gala field, has 6x11 aside/9 aside pitches and 6x7 aside/5 aside pitches." Could be developed as a community hub and training centre, possibly!

Bugger off. I walk the dog round there every day! And there’s meant to be a covenant on it. Not that it matters these days. 😜
Actually, that’s my issue with some of the other suggested sites: public use already - sports / recreation / leisure - outside of football.

It’s an absolute ball ache to get to though…

Given that Simon Sadler grew up in the North of Blackpool I wouldn't be surprised if the new Training ground was built in either the Bispham, Devonshire Rd or Garstang Rd West locations. My preference, would have been Lawsons Road, Stanley Park and be part of a Sports Village in tandem with the Village Hotel and Stanley Park itself. Lawsons Road otherwise known as the Showground area might not be sufficient in terms of size but would be much more accessible and of greater community value.

I have a gut feeling that the news on the training ground is imminen…
Is it just a feeling?

They did say it would have been by now but held up due to legal issues, so in the next few weeks.

Could be any day now.

Critch will know about it and will be excited to have a state of the art training ground built for us to develop players in.

I wonder how long it'll take to build it?

What do we want to see when it's announced? Something similar to poolfoot or 2 facilities, 1 the main TG and the other the pitches round Bloomfield road for the community?

Pictures, videos, diagrams? Mock ups of Critch out there 'on the grass' pointing and grinning?

I’ve said this many times. Lawson Road (with no s) cannot be built on. The land was given to Blackpool Corporation (now council) by Mr William Lawson, with proviso that it would not be built on. That’s why the private hospital which was planned for Lawson Road in the 70’s was moved to St. Walburga’s Road. The land on which the Zoo and the Hotel sits came under a different landowner before the council came into possession of it.

Not necessarily true. Covenants and bequeathed sites can be undone. Personally don’t agree with it. I believe the original use should stand in perpetuity.
Especially around Blackpool where we are lacking in public space.
