Connolly

Not saying he’s the sole reason but as soon as I saw his name on the team sheet from critch I knew what kind of night it would be.
I'm coming over like a one man Connolly appreciation society on multiple threads tonight but I do honestly appreciate his limitations. I think he does too, but he's always honest. It's the players that bottle it and take the safe option, that can't pass properly because they can't control their nerves that wind me up. As for the fister, don't even get me started 🙄

One thing to add as well he’s our highest earner on 5-6k a week. I’m just hoping Simon isn’t daft enough to consider renewing his deal.

Not getting the best out of Connolly, hear me out.....he's a stand in who has been turned into a starter, something probably beyond him bar 2/3 games as the stand in. He's focused and determined then. Playing him like we do (almost a starter) and he needs to resort to the visible dark arts.

Always gives his all, yellow card walking because of that, far from the worst player on the pitch for us tonight but we’re all so disappointed so hey let’s pick a scapegoat- connally, granted he shouldn’t be starting but ffs let’s look at the big picture and accept that overall we aren’t good enough

The back 3 were awful on the ball all night and they always are. The defenders in our squad haven’t got an ounce of composure between them.
Apart from Pennington that back 3 are not very good a passing the ball when they’ve got a centre forward attacking midfielder and two wingers coming at you in waves mistakes will happen. These wingers we have do they offer anything defensively? I like Gabriel but he does have his moments Hamilton offers nothing forward or backwards

Gabriel was the catalyst on Saturday with his energy, and once he went off tonight, we had nothing. Everything good came down the right.

Agree as soon as I saw his name

I feel for him tho as critch just throws him in from nowhere... critch is to blame.

Connelly is great squad player but he gets put in ahead of other players that he shouldn't be... media need to ask critch why
He's not a great squad player. That would be someone who comes in and does a decent job. He doesn't. He's an absolute liability. Despite not playing for a couple of weeks, he looked the most tired. They were going past him as if he wasn't there by the end. Complete liability.

I was actually starting to think he's a bit of Jonah, but I've just checked the season stats - of the games he's played, we've won 18, lost 10 and drawn 4. Still don't rate him though, sorry.

He's horribly out of form. He's not a bad player. He was ok in the champ in the past, but is played all over the place and in a stop start manner recently, and it's taken its toll on him. That's my take.

I wouldn't be picking him at the moment that's for sure, but the "should never play for us again" suggests he's shirking or something and I don't think that's even vaguely fair.

Didn’t surprise me in the slightest he started Connelly nor has it surprised me Virtue’s started to appear on the scene again.I can see both of them starting against Shrewsbury tbh.was going to go Saturday x3 of us but I won’t be bothering making the journey after yet another abysmal performance away.

He gets not only caught out each game now, but then loses it and takes out one of their players.

He did one against Peterborough when their guy was clean through and he took out the guy without the ball.

He did it aginst Forest too, did similar today.

Here's a clip from training, where he improvised after being caught out by a skilful youth striker. I think someone must have shouted to slide in...

I’d be happy to get rid of six players who were involved last night, Connolly included.

They’re all Critchley signings.

A couple of things stick out for me.

One is that a player who is labelled 'utility' needs to get rid of that label by showing he's good enough to nail down one position. CC hasn't done that. Which says plenty.

The other is thata player who is very one footed was played on his weaker side, when we had an alternative option on the bench who would have played on his strong side, yet went unused all night.

I know he said he was available but when team came out I never looked at defensive as presumed it would be same.... only saw CJ in and groaned but thought oh well.

When I did a re scan I saw connolly and knew our season was over... but I thought we would have had a go and had a shot on target.

Someone needs to ask tinkerman why change the team... its not like we are in fa cup... champions league... Motors Cup... fa vase... Carling Cup.... super league... but u would think we are with his constant dropping best players... grrr

Callum Connolly left centre half is marginally better than him left wing-back which are both completely bizarre selections.

I’m guessing it’s because he’s been captain elsewhere and a senior pro but the guy gets exposed every single game he plays.

Critchley has hung Connolly out to dry the way he's used him this season, totally unnecessary
Yep I don’t disagree but bar for a sitting midfielder in a 3 who’s basic on the ball I’m not sure there’s a spot for him in the team where his flaws won’t be exposed.

Aye he's not really fit for purpose, should have gone out on loan in January if Critchley really wanted to help his career

His best position is right side of a back 3. But Pennington is better so...
Watch the Derby home game again and if that’s his best position then it’s a struggle.

He’s an honest pro and imagine he’s good in the changing room amongst our set of Boy Scouts & school prefects coached by the Milk Monitor but we need players who are good footballers as well as having some balls.

Just because it's his best position it doesn't mean he's good at it...

And I reckon you're right about the rest and that's his 'big strength'. Which sums up the muddled thinking that seems better our recruitment and coaching approach for the last couple of seasons.

Yep spot on, the best position bit 🤣

He’s being picked for his character or to activate a contract renewal I think 😂

I thought he did OK at RB in a back four last season which I think is his best position but this system is just too much for him to adapt too

I'd say he's fine as your stand in right back. He's too limited on the ball to be your starting RB over a season unless you really have no intention of pushing them forward.
