Coulson

Saw a lot of people on twitter when Coulson signed saying he was embarrassing to watch and that they couldn't believe he still had a contract etc.

I don't know about anyone else but I thought he looked lively today. He gets forward, isn't afraid to run at defenders, he's got some pace and he seemed to put a shift in to get back. Only one game of course but I won't be disappointed if that's how he continues.

Was pleasantly surprised and seemed to want to grasp the opportunity, couple of good moves and not afraid to attack

Thought he did well today with a beauty of a back flick too in the 2nd half. A good start I think is all that can be said or expected to be said. Long may it continue but early days.

Best throw in taker for a while!

Not sure how much some of you know about Andy Lyons before he moved to Blackpool but he was a class act for shamrock rovers and got young player of the season at LWB in a 3-4-3. He got quite a few goals and assist from there.

Whilst I don’t always agree with critchleys tactics, Lyons isn’t being played out of postion.
That's certainly true, although I only saw him play a couple of games prior to coming to us, so not claiming extensive knowledge, but one he played left, one he played right side and I thought he looked better on the right. iMO He is decent with his wrong foot but not Danny coid decent. I prefer him right side I think.

He looked mobile and had some nice touches...too early to say either way whether he is an upgrade on Dale or Lyons but looked more comfortable than Dom Thompson despite what footballing genius Michael Appleton may think (Dom Thompson will make this club a massive amount of money)

So why do we still play with a left footer on the right ?
Longer term it will be Gabriel. I don't mind one on the 'wrong' side as it gives the opportunity to cut in and shoot, but not both sides. Look at Newcastles goals yesterday. Cutting from the left for a right footed shot. Ditto Bowler from the right to open up his left side.

Lyons best games for us have been at right back.

The main problem is - inverted wing backs DO NOT WORK. Inverted wingers in a 4-3-3 do work as you get the full backs to over lap as the winger is cutting inside, it creates all sorts of problems for the opposition full backs.

In this 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 the inverted wingbacks just cut inside into traffic with no one overlapping. Or try and go on the outside cross it in with there weaker foot or refuse to do that turn back and recycle it, which end up going all the way to grimshaw

Perhaps Critch thought he may be a better member of the squad than Tomo till the end of the season.

Keeps options open on Tomo if it takes errors out of the game on loan then great, if it doesn’t we have had a chance to look at a replacement.

I wasn’t happy at first getting another left back as another Central Defender and box to box Midfielder are more of a priority but it’s ended up a direct replacement.

As for his performance yesterday I saw lots of positives in Coulson.

UTMP🧡

Thought coulson had a decent game on his debut. Long May it continue especially when he is fully fit

His main strength for that position is ge is left foo
I thought you had to be right footed to play on the left, ie Dale, Connolly and Lyons?
Does Critchley actually know what he wants? I'm beginning to wonder.
Ps on Saturday it was noticeable how dangerous Hamilton was when he switched to the left against Exeter.
