Coulson

Looks lost going forward and extremely lightweight. In fairness he played well at Bristol and wasn't the worst on the pitch today. CJ and Gabriel earned that tag by basically being inept in all aspects of the game.

He wishes he had a left foot like Garbutts, he works much harder but has none of the quality.

Tbf how anyone can call him before CJ is beyond me... truly shocking.. again time he needed to put a foot in he didn't and comms confirmed this with "very weak then"

I thought he linked up well with husband. Wasn't brilliant but certainly like Newbury said others to call before him.

I must be on my own in thinking he's shown promise and given us much needed balance - ie a left foot - on the left. Yes he could be stronger and more aggressive but you could say that about virtually every player today. The bigger problem for me is that him, Jimmy and Morgan combined to create crosses and balls in that no-one had the nous or movement to finish off.

Coulson has a bit of the bowler tendency about him, often very head down and not seeing passes to team mates. Also not a great crosser of the ball, thought he worked well with hubby in patches today, but still would prefer to see Lyons there.

He’s got a similar haircut & two legs that’s where the similarities end.

Most of our balls in today were pretty poor, but the problem going up against a team playing an 8-0-3 formation is we were completely outnumbered in the box.

It shows how we all see the game differently . . I thought he had a decent game and one of our better players.

During one of our best breaks of the game, with acres in front of him, he did 14 step overs straight into touch like he was being controlled by a rogue Toddler on FIFA.

I thought he started well, but really lost his way. The step over thing was panic after he didn't get the ball under control quickly enough and he tied himself in knots. I'd have taken him off for Dembele and moved CJ to LWB second half. Played Dembele behind Joseph and Lavs.

thought he had a half decent first half yesterday 🫣🤷‍♂️

He’s done ok bar Saturday. But…Personally I would rather pick Lyons especially with him being our player and we saw his potential last season too.

He plays Coulson because he gives the team left sided balance. He ought to play CJ there, but stubbornly continues to use him on the right ( He didn’t even do that on Sat). Coulson isn’t a world beater, but he is steadier than Thompson. Lyons is streets ahead of Gabriel who is bereft of composure, although a fine athlete.

This is not a crack at Coulson but how Critchley cannot find a regular place in that team for Lyons is beyond me given our away performances

Yes, because the best time to sell is 5 days after the transfer window shut.
Nothing to stop SS sending him out on loan .. was my point ! It’s strange that he’s not being picked even tho it’s obvious ( to me anyway ) he’s a better player by far then Coulsob .. so sumats afoot

There are no loans outwith the window either. So there is something actually.

it won't cost us more at all

i agree he will start though, even though he really isn't that great
It typically would cost us more if we don’t start him. On a loan agreement, the club which holds the players registration would typically want a higher proportion of his salary paid if he isn’t starting or playing.

I think he's definitely brought balance to the left hand side & works well with Hubby. Held on to the ball a bit too much on sat & got outnumbered. I do think the delay in crossing into the box overall is another possession based initiative from the training ground. We don't ask enough questions of lumbering centre halves.

Yes, too often we allow the defence to set rather than have them facing their own goal.

How can he add balance when we play a left footer on the right.

Fact is he looks busy but has no real quality in either attack nor defence and isn’t better than what we have.

Fools a few people because he charges around a bit and will go to ground in the odd tackle which a lot of our fan base seem to value over actual quality.

Lyon’s has more quality with his left foot than Coulson and he’s supposed to be left footed. The balance argument makes no sense. If balance is an issue play Husband there.
