Covid 19

Long time since I posted on here - remember 20toGo Wizaard and Basilrobbiereborn(?). Didn't really want this to be my first post after so long but felt I needed to highlight something. I was diagnosed with Covid on Sunday (Drive through test Tesco) and from what I know and when the symptons started it is very possible I contracted it at Bloomfield Rd at either the Cardiff or Coventry games. My wife and I have been really careful since March 2020 and have only recently gone out to shops in the evening wearing masks etc. We noticed that very few people were wearing masks going through the ticket gates and eating /drinking areas and same on way out. It's very likely however that I caught this in the stands so a warning - Block V around row S may be a dangerous place.

We said that there was a high risk of catching it at the Cardiff game, where we were in block T, surrounded by supporters not wearing masks. We'd also been in Coral Island with grandson and that was packed, with only the odd person wearing a mask.
The risk is always going to be there if we attend crowded places.
Hopefully you'll only experience minor symptoms and your wife none at all.
Get well soon Mr TM.

Thanks for that mate. I was pretty rough Saturday and more so Sunday even though I have had 2 jabs. Feel a bit better today just worn out.

I caught it at Wembley for Euro final. I was double vaccinated too.
Piers Morgan was sat close by and he was also infected.

Just mild flu symptoms with a cough and loss of smell for a few days.
I was fine after a week although felt a little tired at times.
100% fit after 10 days.

shame Moron didn't catch something more serious.

A Painter & Decorator who my mate used earlier this year died last week in the Vic with Covid he was only 50 and fully inoculated.

Take care people.
It's widely known people can still die having been double vaccinated. However the stats show this to be a small minority.

Unfortunately everybody is different and some people are immunocompromised without realising it so may need several additional booster vaccinations before their body triggers an immune response.

Really?
I’d check the death rates if I were you Bob today 30/50 daily? as opposed to 6/8 months ago where 800/900 we’re dying daily.
So what’s changed it if it’s not vaccinations?
Maybe the way deaths are reported has changed. Maybe today people are actually dying OF Covid19 and not just WITH Covid19. Just sayin'....

Drink plenty of water and put your feet up (daytime TV will test your resolve ha ha). Delay any house / garden jobs you have for another day - when your energy levels are up.

You could very well be right, always been a pet hate of mine the way it has been reported.

That's easy to test.

This is the deaths registered in E&W provisional dataset, as published by the ONS: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...nalfiguresondeathsregisteredinenglandandwales

If (in a spreadsheet) you look at the tab "weekly figures by cause" it gives you two figures:
  1. Deaths involving COVID-19 (any mention on the death certificate);
  2. of which, deaths due to COVID-19 (underlying cause).
Simply divide one by the other and if your theory is correct the percentage dying with Covid as an underlying cause should rise noticably over time.

This is what the data shows:

Thus your theory is disproved.

The dip in the percentage across March - May is due to the lower level of Covid cases and deaths at the time (pre-Delta) meaning that a higher proportion are co-incidental, and is nothing to do with reporting.

Thanks for all the heads up. Taking it easy and started to watch the Godfather Trilogy - something her indoors wouldn't want in normal times. Got a call saying because of my age and (minor) health problems I'm being placed in a Virtual Covid Ward - didn't ask about virtual nurses with virtual suspenders/stockings as I thought that might be inappropriate. I'm going to beat this little spiky doo dah and personally I think I would have been a lot worse without the 2 jabs.

Wishing you a full and speedy recovery MrTangerineMan.

All the best.

All part of the unofficial herd immunity plan, if loads catch it this summer it will put less strain on NHS this winter. You sound on the road to recovery which is good.
I catch the tram to games from Bispham, Coventry game the tram was packed and only the conductors and I were wearing masks.
Anti vaxers are bloody lunatics.

Tbh going somewhere where there’s thousands of people, it was always a strong chance you might catch it.
Hope you’re both okay & get over it quickly.

MrT, sorry to hear that.
Hope you get better soon.
MrsDP and I always still wear our masks when doing our weekly grocery shopping.
Many others also wear the mask, but quite a few don't wear them.

Forgot to say that our oldest Great G/sons Mum has caught it.
She is a visiting health worker so obviously has had contact with carriers.

Interesting comments.
So I take it you have not been vaccinated then?
Correct. I don't care much for experimental vaccines. The World needed a vaccine so it came up with one. Normally vaccines go through approximately seven years of clinical testing.....

But I guess if people are happy to be guinea pigs then I'll bide my time to see what happens. We all have choices, I get that.

Good luck with that, you’ll need it when you catch Covid.

So do vaccines not work or only the Covid vaccine?

Some vaccines do work, of course they do (look at polio for example). But it takes a very long time - several years in fact to have an effective vaccine that will help most people. Sure, some people who have the Covid19 vaccine will have less effects or complications of Covid19 but some won't - it's the same as a seasonal flu vaccine. It certainly won't stop you getting the flu but it MAY lessen the severity for you.

Well the gap between cases, hospitalisations and deaths has widened significantly as more of us have been vaccinated. I think that pretty much proves the vaccine is working. Personally, I’d rather be vaccinated and hope that sometime in the future it doesn’t cause me problems, than quite probably die soon from Covid.

So how does one explain that 90% of hospitalisations in Israel and the like have been fully vaccinated? No, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I'm a person who worked within the medical field for many years and am sceptical to say the least..

Working in the cafe at the Vic doesn’t qualify you as a virologist 😉
