Covid at Sunderland

Apparently Sunderland had 8 first-teamers out tonight with Covid and drew at home with Wimbledon. How long do you have to isolate these days? Would love a run at their reserves next week.

Think it will. Apparently they tried to get the game off tonight. I'm not sure why it wasn't allowed but Charlton and Tranmere games were late call offs too I think.
Not sure whether I want next week's game off or not. If they have 8 players out then bring it on but still think it's a ludicrous decision to play it 3 days before Xmas.

The EFL investigate postponements, and if a club hasn't complied with the Covid protocols, they can be punished. Bristol Rovers called off their match same day, so must have been confident that they hadn't breached any of the EFL's Covid rules.
Sunderland didn't call their game off. Draw your own conclusions.

Cheers for that clarification. Maybe still puts next tuesdays game in doubt. See what happens to them with this saturdays fixture..

Just been on SSN with their manager stating they followed all protocols. He's not happy. Anyway, we'll see how it affects us for next week.

Someone at the club didn't call the game off. It's the club that do it, not the EFL, who just threaten punishment if it's called off without proper justification or protocols aren't followed. The club aren't going to stand up and say they haven't followed the rules though, are they?

I have some sympathy for Sunderland on this one. As their manager has said there is a lack of clarity on what sanctions could be enforced if the EFL deem that there was insufficient reasons for Sunderland to call the game off. One player tested positive and a second who had been in close contact was showing symptoms with seven other players put into self-isolation. As a result Sunderland had to use 3 players who were carrying injuries. Surely the livelihoods of the players should be paramount?

We had a situation at work where one employee tested positive and then 3 more who car-shared with him started with symptoms. The plant was shut-down for two weeks to prevent further outbreaks. Even then 6 more employees had already contracted Covid displaying varying levels of symptoms. The worse affected was the 30 year old, physically fit husband of one of the office girls who had to be hospitalized for two weeks.

Sunderland have confirmed Tuesday's League One game at Accrington Stanley has been suspended, as a Covid-19 outbreak continues to affect the squad.

It follows the postponement of the Black Cats' past three games - against Shrewsbury, Blackpool and Hull - with this now the fourth in succession.
Sunderland said the decision was made on player welfare grounds, given the volume of positive cases at the club.
