Craig Cathcart on a Bosman

So I’ve woken up this morning to the news that Craig Cathcart won’t be signing a new deal at Watford. The blokes 34/35 now. Surely a 1 year deal up here would be a great signing 🤔 we need a bit of a Richard Keogh like figure in the team. Even if he plays 20/30 games. Worth a shot. Club legend as well.

Would he take our wages when he'll probably be able to get a club in the Championship?

Keogh was a season or two in front of Cathcart's down slide so just can't see this happening right now but you never know.

He certinly would bring some experience to the team and we may yet offload one or two defenders. Perhaps worth a 1+1 contract. However if squad numbers and the budget is tight I think the priorities should be a goalscorer and a winger.

We currently have 5 CBs (if you include Connolly) potentially in the squad. For it to be even contemplated we'd have to lose one or even two first.
I've no idea how well Tharme and Casey are doing.

And . . . . . he’s still playing International football. Ok, his age is a tad against him, but he’s a monstrously experienced, solid and dependable, player. He also knows the town and what to expect from the fans. He’s certainly worth a punt, I’d say. I see Ipswich are sniffing around him at the moment.

He's been darn sarf for years now, mainly in the premier league so will have earned plenty and set himself up, family, house etc. Can't see him moving too far from home.

I think any player that played regularly in the Premier League season could arguably be considered a legend of the club. Richard Kingson aside. Scored at home to Man Utd 🤔
That criteria for being a legend is far too generous, simply playing regularly in the Prem for us. That wasn't our only season in the top flight, plenty of Blackpool players have scored against Man United - we aren't a non-league setup.

He's akin to Luke Varney. Gave us some good moments and did well for the club, hero status at best.

Those were my thoughts as well, doubt he'd move up North at this stage of his career. Would be a decent signing if that wasn't the case.

Glass half full mate. Love that.

Cathcart not worthy of the legendary status. You’ll be right mate. I’ll be wrong. I’ve only been watching Blackpool since 2002. You’ve been at it since 1942.
Not a matter of right or wrong. Just opinions. In my opinion, in the great big book of legendary Blackpool players… with places afforded to a select few….I’d wager 10,000 guineas that Cathcart doesn’t quite make it.

Legend status is reserved for immense achievements. Trophy wins, significant amount of appearances, outstanding individual quality.

Some tick all those boxes; Stanley Matthews, and Stan Mortensen for example. Cathcart doesn't tick any if we're being honest. A decent player who was part of an amazing period in our modern history, we're certainly fond of him but he doesn't even enter the conversation for me. Could you honestly put him next to Armfield, Adam, Ball, Green, Hampson, Suddick, Mathews, Mortensen?

He's no Rory Pendergast.

Alright everyone calm down. I might have got ahead of myself with Cathcart being a legend. He was a good player when he was here and if we could re-sign him, I’d be a happy chap.
