Cricket doesn’t get better than this

When cricket is great it’s better than football. When cricket is just cricket it’s as dull as being stuck in traffic on the A6.

Each to their own of course, but to me, the idea of preferring 20/20 to a test match feels like choosing to watch penalty shoot outs without the context of the actual football.

They are dramatic, and they're great in their own way - I just can't imagine only watching penalty shoot outs all the time sustaining the attention of the world.

I don't hate T20. It's good fun - but I don't like the way it's predominant because in my very honest view, it's a shadow of the game test cricket is.

I go to OT fairly regularly these days and my favourite county comp is the One Day Cup. Which has been marginalised to bits. 50 overs allows for a better quality of cricket imo than T20 and a result on the day. But 50 over cricket seems to be on the way out.

50 overs is extra time in my analogy I guess.

Echoes the opinion of many

what a wicket that was of Kawaja - ridiculous field got in his head
My stream has just caught up!!!

I wondered what the hell you were on about 😂

Outstanding stuff.

I love how Stokes never lets the game drift. England behind it and he makes things happen.

Need 3 quick un's now.

Test cricket is by far my favourite too. I like one day cricket and T20 as well, but I have to say, I'm watching in dismay as franchise cricket around the world seems to be taking hold like japanese knotweed, strangling everything in its path.

Franchise anything leaves me cold. I just can't get excited about a money based Indian franchise side, any more than I can Manchester Originals in the soulless "The Hundred". I have no affinity with Manchester whatsoever, any more than I do any other city. Franchise up Blackpool Blasters and I'll see if I can muster any interest!

Old man mode off :)

Spot on.

Could and should have played 10 T20 matches.

This test match is only exciting because of the T20 players in it.
I'd say it was exciting because of the positive attitude of Stokes and McCullum. Also because the two teams are very well matched.

The players are pretty much the same as those under the old regime . . . and our best batsmen and two best bowlers are red ball players rather than white ball. 👍

I live in Manchester near OT and have no affinity with Manchester Originals.

Test cricket is best but at county level I like the 50 over tournament.
