Critch or Dobbie?

I'll be upfront and say I wanted Dobbie to get the job. Has Critch done well? Yes, two wins and a draw and no goals conceded. Job very well done so far. But how well would Dobbie have fared with this team in League One?
I'll be delighted to be proved wrong and we get promoted but I think we missed a trick not appointing Dobbie.

A case of you’re damned if you do and you’re damned if you don’t.

If Critchley wasn’t available, Dobbie might have been a decent option.

But the team wouldn’t be what it is if that was so, Critch has contacts for players that Dobbie doesn’t- and I suppose viceversa.

I like Dobbie, but he came after the disasters of Appleton and McCarthy where we couldn’t win a game to save our lives. An improvement on them should have been bare minimum - it doesn’t necessarily confirm his managerial credentials.

Critch is proven at this club and at this level. Been there and done it. Why on earth would we not go back in for him? I think those who were ‘pro Dobbie‘ were actually more ‘anti Critch’.

silly to try and compare as we probably would not have this team with Dobbie. He motivated what we had ,but needs a lot more experience and sadly I don't like Critch ,but so far so good.

Critchley 💯 is a good fit for the pool and more importantly the team always turn up more often than not and furthermore gets the best out of the players. I’m surprised to see a post like this I thought we’ve moved on.

Not because of any personal opinion on how Critchley will do but I would have liked us to have gone with Dobbie because I like it when we take a chance. We’ll never know how it would have panned out. I also didn’t want us to go for an ex manager yet again

Got to be the most stupid question ive ever read on here 🙄

Dobbie should of been given the opportunity to manage the club
Have…….not of…..
Dobbie would have been an appointment many fans would have been happy with and I believe he will go onto prove his capabilities but maybe it was a bit to soon but we appointed someone who has proven he can do the job already and whilst his departure definitely left a very sour note he is definitely capable of doing it again and hopefully he will.

I've acknowledged Critley is doing well. Would Dobbie have done as well or better?

Oh god shut up

Madness! People think we are going to roll everyone over in this division, getting too carried away by 2 wins and then too carried away when we don't win, Dobbie has zero experience and some fans had him down as the messiah. Great start to the season, win your homes and getting a point away get you promoted.

Mr Dobbie will be given the opportunity to manage Blackpool in the future, if he sticks around. No manager lasts forever, and I don’t know what Critchley’s career plans are even if he has cured his Gerrarditis itch. But he is not going to be another Joe Smith.

Anybody care to revisit their views? We have the players to gain promotion but is Critchley the man to do it?
Only did well in League One after Calderwood came in as assistant. Failed at Villa and failed at QPR. I'm sticking with my view we should of given Dobbie a shot

I would have been happy with Dobbie. He might have got more than 4 games before a section of the fanbase were calling for his dismissal. Maybe as many as 8 games, just for old times’ sake.

We have a significantly weaker team than last season, except maybe Norwood. Would Dobbie do the same job with the current crop ?
Only really lost Yates (major blow) but have brought in Norburn, Morgan and Pennington and brought back Virtue (who I really rate). Don't think we are that much weaker. Should be doing better

I was hoping he had learned and changed his tactics, I was really thinking he wouldn’t, and so far, I’m right. He’s not going to change, that’s his method, cautious, set up not to lose and hoof long balls over the top. Dobbie, please step in.

Only lost Yates since Dobbie was in charge ?
From the end of last season, Yates, Bowler, Morgan, Fiorini, Anderson and Gabriel injured. This team is significantly weaker and certainly nowhere near the same creativity as Dobbie had at his disposal.

Bowler came back in under Dobbie true, but Keshi injured and only played last few games while unfit and Gabriel injured/unfit for the most part. I think Norburn as good, If not better than Fiorini, although slightly different roles. I don't think we are any weaker than last season apart from Yates, indeed definitely stronger in midfield.

Agreed. Great squad but poor tactics.

Anderson only came in for the last few games ? Would that be the last few games that Dobbie was manager then ?
Norburn and Fiorini are chalk and cheese as midfielders. We have more bodies to pick from in midfield but nowhere near the creativity that we had for the last few games under Dobbie.
No alternatives upfront and no creativity that Bowler, Anderson , Morgan and Fiorini provided.
The thread was Dobbie or Critchley, my opinion is Dobbie would have had his work cut out with current crop that are available for selection.

Anderson wasn't match fit, (great player, liked him a lot) Morgan scored I think about one goal for us (happy to be proved wrong). I really dont think we are any weaker than last season than upront. I don't think Critchball will get us promoted unless we bring in a strong, successful no2.

Obviously we will never know what the outcome would have been if the club were brave enough to choose Dobbie, alternatively signing Critchley didn't scream ambition did it.
