Critchley gone

Wow, no doubt all the behind the scenes stuff will come out of the woodwork eventually. Gutted though as I thought the bloke was here for the long haul.

Shocked but not gutted.

Remember guys, no-one is irreplaceable. As every door closes a new one opens 👍
Yes I'd say the same, shocked but not gutted.
And didn't he have a few years on his contract?
If so, there will be a fee involved for reinvestment.

Looking forward to the applications for the role now that we're a well run club

I'd have been very worried under the last lot. Some good names mentioned in this thread already.

Looking a bit grim just now as doesn't feel we were ready to spend too much this summer and we perhaps overachieved last year. Staying up will be a challenge for whoever takes over.

Just as we were getting going, as a club not performance wise!! Shows a massive lack of ambition for me on Critch’s part, unless he’s decided the management game is not for him. I suspect there is more to it than going for the money.

WTF!

This is one of the most bizarre departures of a manger we’ve had. All poised to take us forward for the next 2/3 years.

Two possibilities for me, he’s been told there’s nothing to work with in the next few years squad finances wise and thought he might as well go out on a relative high.

Second is that he knew he’d gone as far as he could in management. As much as I liked him and was willing to give him time he continued to make basic errors.

Shocked by this news.

Glad it’s come now so the plans for next season won’t be too far behind the original schedule.
There's more possibilities than that. Maybe he's getting more money for less pressure at Villa.
I d have a look at Tony Mowbray if I was Simon Sadler. Likes working with younger players , experienced and a straightforward guy.

Somebody I know in business acted as Managing Director for 12 months, but in spite of the extra money he hated all the hassle and responsibility, and went back to doing the job he liked and was happy in.

Could this be the case with Critchley?

Its disappointing but football clubs constantly evolve. Players, managers and staff leave to be replaced by others.
The only constant is the club itself and the fans. Maybe we'll end up with somebody better? Who knows?
Remember when Grayson left for Leeds? It was all doom and gloom then.
We ended up with Tony Parks as caretaker and then Holloway. Look what happened then.

Im absolutely gobsmacked by this. He was given a 6 yr contract showing the faith and trust the club had in him. Can't believe it.

However the board know their stuff and they will make the right choice.

Clearly something has gone on that he didn’t like, or the board didn’t like. The obvious reason is money, he’s getting more there and, or was told there’s no mo to spend and he’s not involved in recruitment. It’ll be interesting to see what the club says.

Probably quadrupled his salary but money isn't everything in life. I thought he was going to build something special here but maybe he preferred the easy option. Let's bring back Evo and Thommo the dream team!

Personally I think that falls into possibility two. He’s lost his bottle at management level.

Easy to take a pay rise and have less pressure.

It can’t be to further himself getting a Prem managers job surely!?

He’d have far more chance progressing with us to do that.

Liked Critch but I don’t think he could have taken top half of the table.
We’ll be lucky to stay up next season, no money to spend, lost our manager who could improve players, it’s gloom and doom from me but really hope I’m wrong!

Upsetting to be honest. Did a superb job and was a genuine nice guy. Hopefully we got decent compensation for him but it’s a minefield getting the right guy in. I’d go for Dyche if we have cash although he’s probably out of our reach or Mowbray who although dour is competent and his teams are always competitive. Or Mark Robins

I reckon you and Bleach could do a job (not this one tho!) :)
