Critchley gone

Really disappointed & puzzled by this. I bet Simon Saddler is too . Thought he'd stay for next season or 2 . Didn't he recently sign new contract ?.

Villa can offer much bigger wage package ,
I had him down as more principled & loyal .
Not too bothered about a so called lack of money available as some have intermated , its always been thus at Blackpool & the club is moving forward with longer term plans that will help sustainability .
If lack of player funds/budget is one of reasons then that disappoints me too as he knew that would always be the case & was a part of the Project .
Having to find a new Manager at this stage of the rebirth isn't ideal and it will be interesting to see what happens ,Simon & his directors have got a job & a half on their hands to replace Critchley .

I'm really really disappointed in this and in him .

There's more possibilities than that. Maybe he's getting more money for less pressure at Villa.
I d have a look at Tony Mowbray if I was Simon Sadler. Likes working with younger players , experienced and a straightforward guy.
But our likely budget may put him off, more likely to be a lower league manager I think.

Lack of funds for squad strengthening must have been a major factor. Let's face it Critchley did wonders last season with a bang average squad.. and with little funds for bringing in the required quality his powers of motivation would have been tested to the limit next season. I actually thought his managerial powers were waning towards the end of the season anyway. Does seem odd that both him and McCall both go at the first opportunity. I think Critchley thought he was going to struggle next season with much the same squad so why not go out on a relative high. Be interesting now to see who gets the job..has Critchley's sidekick gone as well..if not will he get the gig? Or will they go for an out of work manager like Dyche, Ferguson or Rooney 😀 ?
From an outside perspective I think we have to put down a lack of transfer funds as a major reason for him leaving. You can imagine that he's envisioning a struggle next year, or stagnation at best. Isn't the type of thing that's going to send 'wow' signals to Prem teams if he has aspirations of managing there. Can't help but think he's jumping a potentially sinking ship.

Or he's just a **.

The number two role at Villa is a big job and god luck to Critch. What concerns me most is getting someone in now who knows what they are doing.

We are now lagging behind everyone else in terms of recruitment as targets are disappearing to other places and the lack of incoming news has been deafening.

The new gaffer needs to evaluate the squad quickly and assess who can do a job and who can’t. Then we need to get talking to the players we need.

It is important that this is done quickly so that this doesn’t spiral into a disastrous relegation season.

You could be right I don't know. Certainly more realistic than Dyche. A lot of good lower league managers about. Since we beat Exeter in the play off final I've always looked out for them and Matt Taylor's done a great job there with a small budget and young players. Or maybe we go down the academy route again.

We surely gave him permission to talk to Villa so maybe the club werent too bothered to let him go. As soon as we were safe results plummeted and the style of football wasn’t great. If that had continued into the new season the worry would be that we’d let him go and have to pay considerable compensation.
Sadler always said that he wanted someone who played the game the right way so maybe now he will go for someone like Evatt who will do that and he now has experience under his belt.
Critch was on a learning curve with us and will now continue that at a higher level but with less pressure so could be a win win all round. Time will tell.

The sentiment obviously regarded results, him leaving is a bit of a shock but irrelevant to the sentiment you're referencing.
The sentiment I quoted was always used in reference to the boring football and crap signings. I have never called for him to go, but I can’t honestly say I will lose any sleep over it.

The Critchley move will obviously have been going on for a few weeks, thus giving SS time to approach a new manager as a replacement. Gonna stick me neck out and name Dyche as our next manager, consolidation in the Championship being the main objective.

Totally shocked by this but when it comes to football, nothing should surprise us I guess.

In terms of why, I think it was a case that his new contract will be multiples of his Blackpool deal. Villa have been splashing the cash and Gerrard wanted him badly, so I guess it was just an offer that he simply couldn't refuse. And as 20s argued, the link up with SG could easily lead to a move with him back to Liverpool in a couple of years. It could also be that he simply felt his stock is currently high and he has cashed his chips in.

Will we miss him? The gut feeling is yes, but as some have said he was very naive at times with selection/tactics. For me the most important person at the club is SSS. He is setting us up to be competitive in the long run with the £30m investment.

As for the next manager, I think we are looking at a continuity candidate. Someone with a good track record of polishing up young rough diamonds...

Don't look back in anger, our future is in safe hands 👍

It's completely different, this is a man who was hand picked and given everything he needed, not someone who was available and had to wash the kits.
There is no difference, the Manager has left hand picked or not ,he goes into my memory as a scum bag ,much the same as others who have left our club. If you still love him or want him back sad ol you !!

You've not read the board in the past hour or so have you?

How have you deduced that I want him back, I'm literally saying this is worse than those who went under the Oystons.

Let’s remember also , SS is a real true long-standing fan. We don’t know in all honesty how satisfied he was with last seasons performances and the inconsistency.

What I'm saying is, the "in Critch we trust" brigade have no reason to be here. They were trusting in his results, style of play, etc. If the situation was that Critchley got us relegated, playing god awful football after spending millions upon millions in the transfer market, then your comment would apply, but that isn't the situation.

Perhaps, seems pretty swift to me. Depends how long Villa were aware their man was off to QPR. I certainly wouldn't mind Dyche, take the results over imagined continental football any day. Though I think he's beyond our reach.

Apart from the millions spent, which as you know we haven’t got, the god awful football and relegation were a real possibility for next season. We were found out the last quarter of the season, that’s why our results were so poor.

Maybe he felt out of his depth. He appeared to be when making some of his choices.
No hard feelings from me. Have a lot of respect for the guy. We had a mediocre season in some ways and maybe we need a change at the helm ourselves.

Wish him well and onwards and upwards for us 👍
In Critch we trust - b*ll*cks ! Not really surprising as he's a mate of Stevie's.

Gerrard continues to do a decent job at Villa with Critch as his no 2 and then when Klopp goes Gerrard takes Critch to Liverpool. As a long term plan it makes sense.
But very risky if Villa have a mediocre season this year he’ll find him self out on his heels as a fired number two.

This is the only reason I can see him bailing on us now really.

He’s either incredibly brave or incredibly stupid.

Definitely his sliding doors moment.

Debatable, off topic though.
