Critchley(has someone had a word)R/BB Presser.

Don't be like that.
It’s pretty obvious though that he’s going to speak with his squad mate. He works with them all on a daily basis and they will have regular interactions.

This problem isn’t going to disappear with a change of formation, despite what the four at the back proponents might have us all believe.

I didn't assume that. My post was linked firmly to Tuesday. I want him to sit down with his squad and say,"what did we do wrong, you and me?"

It’s a poor manager who has to wait for the fans to tell him what’s wrong!
It’s a poor manager who takes any notice of fans, or even find out what they are saying. Let me change my beliefs because 2 lads who played for Barnstoneworth United second eleven in Sunday League Division 6 , says I should . He will succeed or fail without help from keyboard fans.

It's a decent interview.... Radio Lancs have been excellent this season in my opinion... They have certainly haven't shied away from asking the difficult questions and in this instance, I think Critchley has responded honestly.
But you would defend him even if we were in the relegation zone.

Wiz, you know and I know, changing personnel in a formation that hasn't worked consistently all season doesn't make a difference.
The formation has worked very well at home, it's been boring as fuck in the main, but it's worked. The away form however... Is it the formation? Is it the tactics? Is it the ability of the squad? Is it something the manager or backroom staff are failing at? Whatever the reason, something isn't working away from home and it needs sorting!

No I wouldn't... Well not unless it was justified. I'm not defending him here anyway. I've simply said its a decent interview and he's answered the questions honestly.

As far as results are concerned, I really don't think that they have been acceptable away from home and the Manager has to take the responsibility for that. He's not immune from criticism and clearly something isn't working.... However that doesn't mean I think that we need to fire him, because I don't.

How do we know if it's the formation if he doesn't change our approach?

If he doesn't change our formation for a few games and we still keep losing that's one thing we can tick off.

The difficulty is Kurt that they’re not really implementing the way we are ‘supposed’ to be playing properly… They’re getting drawn into a style of play that suits the opposition…

Now it’s entirely possible that a different formation might better enable us to play our own game and implement our own game-plan… But for me… The inability to implement and impose our own game on the opposition either comes down to a) Lack of ability in the squad b) Dissent in the Ranks, c) Confidence or d) Poor Coaching. I don’t think the formation itself can ever be wrong, because others could implement it successfully… In fact this team has implemented it successfully. It’s possible that the system ideally suited to this group or to a particular type of opposition, suppose… (kind of a bit like paper, stone scissors)😂 So maybe 352 or 343 wherever it is these days is just Trumped by ‘Lump it into the Mixer’

I hope that he has had time to reflect on both the game and his post match remarks and has realised that he should take that responsibility in public. Nobody has said the players are completely without blame. I thought there were some people who went ‘missing’ in that match and it was clear to me watching on TTV that Cheltenham wanted more than us. But it’s not then the right thing to publicly criticise them - imo.

If he has reflected, learned from it and then goes on to alter his approach then fair play, that is what decent management does.

Let’s see.

He hardly criticised them really … If they can’t handle that… which was a perfectly fair and reasonable comment from him, then frankly they’re in the wrong game altogether. It was a piss poor performance and plenty of managers might have publicly torn a strip off them.

I agrée that should happen in the dressing room - but as a leader it’s poor to take that to the public.

Nah…It’s perfectly normal and his comments were very measured and reasonable. What would be poor is to start singling out individuals for their poor performances or taking the mild and fair evaluation of the performance to a different or unprofessional level.

There’s literally nothing to see in his interviews and comments. He’s the consummate professional tbh.

Just another case of people looking for a stick to beat him with.

As a leadership instructor I’m telling you it’s poor end of. So our opinions will differ.

Great isn’t it 😀

If you don't have ball playing centre backs, outside of Casey and Pennington. Husband Connolly and Marvs are absolutely shite with the ball. You don't then force the ball on them continuously for 90 minutes.

Yes the players are capable of playing better. But they look like they are playing tennis with their weaker hand all the time.

Must be so disheartening for a player to put in a great shift, only to find yourself benched for the next game! Lost count how many times Critch has done it this season

Well… if we go back to the two podcasts earlier in the year, when we played Bolton, that’s precisely what Ian Evatt did…

I suppose ultimately either the players or the system has to give. I’m not convinced that our CH’s would be any better trying to build from the back than they are in a 3. Past experience would suggest Marv certainly isn’t.

His suggestion that a back 5 suits these players is crazy considering we still have 3 players in Gabriel/Ekpiteta/Husband that have played in a back 4 in Critchley teams in the past

Yeah, and my point is, we need an extra man in midfield up front as playing the way we do doesn’t help us to be honest.

I feel we need a complete clear out in the summer and start again with a core of 7-8 players.

Playing with 12 Men would almost certainly help 👍

Where have I said playing with 12 men?

I literally made the point to remove a CH and replace with a central midfielder. Do you ever actually read or do you just write paragraph after paragraph of utter nonsense?

Back on ignore mode, the forum is a much better place without having to read your random antagonistic nonsense.

Sorry Kurt..I forgot that you were a very serious kind of bloke - It was a joke 😉

But then everyone will moan and say he hasn't said anything, as i have said many times he can't win on anything he does, well on here anyway
I am commenting on what I feel about the situation and not on behalf of others. I am not that bothered, if at all, about him as individual. There have been many on here a lot more vociferous about him, both on a personal and football management basis. I was actually relatively hopeful when he was reappointed but over time I have become jaded by the inability to change tactics to suit situations and, frankly at times, boring football. Some might say, would I care about that if we were top of the league?- and honestly maybe I wouldn’t, but the reality is we are not and we are only just hanging in to 8th place.

it was a stark change in tone from the post match presser and pre Peterborough presser. Like I have said previously it is a good thing if he has learned from that and credit where it is due.

I think he is struggling; the standard of many of our players is higher than 8th place. I think his team selections, player positioning and tactics have been questionable on occasion and he seems to be almost pathologically averse to changing. You didn’t need to be a rocket scientist to see that writ large against Stevenage - and that was combined with some players being awol on the pitch.

Hairdryer them in the dressing room - absolutely. Walk out to the press and take responsibility (like he did in the pre Peterborough piece) - even better!

Anyway time to move on. I hope he proves me wrong on some points above. I’ll be first to say so if he does!

Fair points said on a few issues, i personally don't have a problem with him saying things in public about performances, that has happened for years, and i think a lot of people wouldn't notice tweaks in games formation wise if they happened.
As you say lets hope we kick on and see how the rest of the season goes
