Cummings

So advisor to PM who created and influenced policy returns said PM with 80 seat majority. In other words did his job at a level NOBODY ON HERE has ever got anywhere near. Nothing to see here, move along
I think you miss the point.

Here's a clue...

Also, are you sure no one here is competent in their own career?

I think you miss the point as your influenced by your own political views. These people whether you agree with them or not do very responsible jobs whose salary is commensurate with that role. Just as NHS salaries are. The role pay rates are dictated by what they do, all employees of any company are free to move to any other company if they have skills that are in demand and could be paid more. So what point am I missing?

He did a crap job in the long run though. He totally undermined the government with his trip to Barnard Castle and his incessant fibbing on the matter.
The reverberations of which haven’t been felt yet by his so called boss.

That a politician in Government has to not only be efficient or effective, they also have to implement policy in the public interest. Opposing pay rises for underpaid nurses is not in the public interest.
But then, that's where the politics comes in eh?

The point that you are missing is that Cummings is a first class obnoxious individual, irrespective of anyone’s political views! He was in support of a first class obnoxious clown, as becomes more apparent with each passing day! Instead of giving him a £40K pay rise, he should have been shown the door long before his trip to Barnard Castle and his subsequent lies!

Cummings is not a politician he was a consultant. The public can remove any politician every 4 years if they choose to. Nurses are not underpaid, they get paid what the job is worth and are free to take any other job perhaps in private medicine if they feel they can earn more. As a tax payer I want to see the NHS budget spent on treatment and not salaries. So it could be argued its very much in the public interest to spend the budget in the best way.

You know this man personally do you?

"Nurses are not underpaid. They get paid what the job is worth." I do hope you had the self-discipline to post that with a straight face.

He did the job he was paid to do and of course no Labour politician or official has ever done anything wrong have they.

I couldn't give two hoots if he was Labour, Tory or the Judean Peoples Front. He undermined the entire lockdown with his actions and lack of apology IMO.
On his own? Wow what about SNP MP and the Labour MP. The police investigated and cleared him of anything illegal. Oh let me guess, they were told to say that 🙄

Nope. I agree. Any MP, public figure, Government official who broke the rules undermined the lockdown IMO.
Maybe you didnt read my post properly - "I couldn't give two hoots if he was Labour, Tory or the Judean Peoples Front...."

As Johnson's advisor he was an archtect of the rules. He made the rules and then broke the rules, the police actually said that he had broken the law with the Barnard Castle trip but wouldn't pursue it. His wife also put out misleading stories in the press that gave the impression that they had stayed in London all the time - why would she do that?

Neil Fergusson, the epidemiologist didn't break any rules (his girlfriend did) but resigned from SAGE because it undermined public trust in the government's covid strategy. That is an example of the actions of an honorable man.

The police actually said
It concluded that the journey to Barnard Castle on Wakefield’s birthday amounted to a “minor” breach of the rules “because there was no apparent breach of social distancing”, and it found there was “insufficient evidence” that he made a second trip.

What’s it like to be in a tiny minority in respect of most of your posts on here?

While working as a SPAD he was technically a civil servant and subject to the Civil Service Code, not that makes a scrap of difference with this Government.

It's easy to say from Australia (I think) that nurses are not underpaid. They've been subject to the same austerity rules as other civil servants with regular pay freezes and will therefore be 22% behind inflation on 2010 rates of pay.

Forget what he did for a minute, which for me was sackable.

I think he was massively underpaid for his job responsibilities!!

Nearly half of the whole NHS budget is spent on wages and that budget has increased year on year. https://www.kingsfund.org.uk/projects/nhs-in-a-nutshell/nhs-budget

Of course they have. His politics are irrelevance to me.
And I don’t class doing the job he was paid to do as not adhering to his and his own employers Covid lockdown strategy rules.

That must be the tiny minority that helped with an 80 seat majority. Don’t think because most don’t like to put their head above the parapet on here due to the incessant bile from you lot that they aren’t sat their agreeing with others that are prepared to challenge the Constant hatred spewed out on this side of the board.
now if you will excuse me there’s an important game on 👋🏻

So you also think Dominic was correct in all his actions in the trip to Durham and Barnard Castle?

Of course not and have not said that. The original debate was over his pay rise and did he deserve it. To which overwhelmingly the answer is yes. Just because you don't like him or his politics doesn't change that.

Well said, let's focus on 3 points for the pool

I repeat he was a civil servant and was therefore subject to civil service terms and conditions. Were in the middle of a pay freeze as are the nurses and have been for a decade. As such he shouldn't have got a pay rise at the same level.

This will annoy lefites...

Politicians should be paid 10x (at least) what they currently earn, as the current salary level does not attract the best of the best.

Most people in business, or most people who are successful laugh at the PMs salary.

The problem is the average UK neanderthal is jealous of what a politician earns, therefore the UK will be run by mainly Muppets forever!!!

You clearly have no concept of how businesses operate at an executive level. Incidentally the NHS does not have a pay freeze. www.nursingtimes.net/news/policies-and-guidance/chancellor-confirms-nhs-nurses-will-be-spared-from-public-sector-pay-freeze-25-11-2020/

Personally, as a taxpayer, if I’m involved in an RTA I hope when I open my eyes I see a qualified nurse and not Our Dom....Bob’s Beloved.

And if Bob happens to be in the next bed I shall whisper to the nurse “According to Bob you are not underpaid. You are being paid what the job is worth. And as you’re free to take another job if you wish, I’d tell Bob that you’re too busy to bring him a bed pan. So go fcuk himself”.

LOLZ 😂 - as the kids say.

Here we go with the ridiculous socialist notion of give everybody more money as they are worth it. Dont worry we will tax the rich and all the horrible big businesses that earn millions to pay for it.

So you want to spend more of the NHS budget on salaries rather than front line care?
It shouldn't take much to think outside that box should it? No, I'm not talking about the current, devalued, budget. I'm talking about a significantly increased budget. A budget to deal with the full health needs of our expanding and longer-living population.
I'm talking about a new social contract with the public that says, 'you pay higher progressive taxes and we, the Government invest in you: in health, social care, education, defence, policing, environment, local council funding, energy and communications development, overseas aid, trade agreements with our neighbours and international friends.
In other words, a completely different style of government for all of our British citizens.

That nobody voted for at the last General election and cost comrade Corbyn his job as it was widely rejected by the electorate

No it wasn't. Corbyn was rejected. Johnson's "let's get Brexit done" was favoured. The idea of a social democratic settlement is for another day.

He didn't fail did he? Just because you don't agree with him doesn't change the fact he masterminded brexit and an election victory.
Masterminded with mind numbing slogans such as "Take back control" and "oven ready deal"
That does indeed constitute a mastermind when compared to the people who fell for it.
