Danny Drinkwater retires

I saw him play twice for Reading and was surprised how ‘average’ he looked - he missed a 1 on 1 with Grimmy in our 3-2 away win there (the Dale match) - the it was a good save by Grimmy and should have put them 3-0 up but we then really dominated in the rain

Fantastic at Leicester, in the England set up but couldn’t quite shine at Chelsea

NC could give him a trial in our midfield if he’s persuadable - only 33

Sounds like he still saw himself as a top two division player and didn't want to take offers from lower league clubs. His choice at the end of day. Retires a Premier League winner and not many people can say that.

"I've been wanting to play but not getting the opportunity to play at a standard or a level where I felt valued," Drinkwater said.

"I've never been really obsessed with football, I've just loved it. The idea of me dropping down is fine but it's the idea of not playing to my worth."

We obviously didn't value him enough, it wasn't about the money at all🤣🤣

Best move by him, clearly not going to be happy playing in League 1 and on the wage that comes with it - sad in a way as only 33 (if thats true) could have had at least 2/3 more years in the game. But if his attitude isn't right he would have been a nightmare to have in anyone's squad - so best go now and regret it later he didn't play a bit longer when its too late- cannot be short of money.
