Dear Simon Sadler: Get Thommo back

No surprise that NC's most successful stint co-incided with having an experienced assistant. Whether that was Colin Caolderwood or Stuart McCall. Have to say Steve Thompson definitely fits into the 'experienced assistant' category. The clue for Thommo is 'assistant'. He is definitely works better as an assistant, not as a manager.

Spoken more sense during this game than I’ve heard for a while. The sort of character we need in the dressing room. Get him in the management team to help out 🙌
Absolutely not

May as well also get Matt Williams, Holloway and Karl Oyston back

What's James Beattie and Andy Reid doing these days

We need to move forward and stop ** harping back to the glory days

I still say his influence had as much or even more to get us into the prem!
Love to see him given a role, but not holding my breath.

And we need to stop randomly pairing favourites from that era with modern day names. It doesn’t work like that, managers have their own assistants, you can’t just fuse a fave from the past with the current manager

There were many factors that brought about that wonderful day at Wembley but the team spirit was the main driving factor and Thommo, for me, was a huge part of that. It was no accident that players ran to celebrate with Thommo when scoring goals, rather than the gaffer, Thommo kept them grounded and was their "man to go to" with whatever they needed/wanted. He was a great coach but a good friend too, something you can't really be as a manager.

Gary Bowyer can be included in that lot. Oh he speaks well on Radio Blackburn. In that case make you know Brett as boss.

I just wonder why, if he is as good as some on here think, that he is working on Radio Lancs? Great respect for what he was part of, but leave the past in the rear view mirror.

It's 2 years since he was assistant manager at the Knobbers.
His stint at Oldham was as head of recruitment (stepping in as interim manager for a month).
Maybe that's where he sees his future, in the stands rather than on the touchline.
For me, that's where he'd be best employed, as SS's DoF / Head of Football Operations, to fill the glaring lack of football experience at executive level.
He's the right hand man SS has needed from the start.

Always makes me laugh when a player or someone who has played/coached/managed North End is linked with us and they are immediately shot down, I mean look at the up roar about Appleton and even Rhys Williams (supposedly a fan) as latest examples.

Yet “Blackpool through & through” Thompson is mentioned all the time, despite as another poster points out not being at this level for at least a couple of years now.

The obession with former players/managers in particular Thompson is just weird.

If you listen to his commentary, he nails all of the teams flaws. Some people complain Critchley fails to see the obvious with his bizarre team selections and subs. That’s how I see it. It’s not ridiculous to want an experienced coach with ties to the area to be re-recruited

A bring Thompson back thread. Very original, don’t think this has been suggested before.
I think the timing is important - there's a solution that needs to be found within the coaching/management at the moment. An fresh pair of eyes and voice might improve our fortunes

I didn't know Critchley didn't want any extra coaching staff. Has it been suggested to him and he has rejected it?

Time has gone for a No 2 now.

He would obviously be imposed and not NC's want as such. Huge undermining of NC. Should have happened when NC was rehired or by October at the latest.

Time for NC to sink or swim for the rest of the season. Home form is providing the armbands.

He is working on Radio Lancs for the same reason anyone works, money. His main job is head of recruitment at Oldham Athletic.

Who are in the National League. If we took a 59 year old coach from the National League, most fans would scream 'lack of ambition.' We are guilty as a fanbase of wearing tangerine blinkers.

Read the post correctly. HEAD OF RECRUITMENT, not a coach.

I did. I was pointing out that if he had not been involved with BFC before, there would be no clamour at all.
I didn’t suggest he did return to us. I was merely pointing out to you that he’s still involved in football and isn’t just a radio commentator.

He is no longer involved at Oldham. Was Head of Recruitment then Interim manager they appoint Micky Mellon full time and he leaves.

The question is 'Is Critch a Coach or a Manager?
Can he fulfil both roles at the same time?
We know he's a good coach, but he's never really been a Manager.
Does he need help?
