December 2nd

Okay, so you seem to have edited another poster's post, or perhaps your own, into mine, so it is far from clear to me what you are actually saying.
Yes no idea how that happened. Apologies.
I was simply making two points:
1. Dr Gail Carson of Global Outlook and Alert Response Network was quoted on the news citing the effectiveness of Taiwan’s actions. It reminded me of this thread.
2. I was less supportive of the timeliness of quarantining cross border travellers and more interested in their preparedness to be able to swiftly implement effective tracing and isolation.

Both of which bring us back to the point I first raised, was their response as effective as claimed or indeed any different to ours, or was it simply a case that they were never really threatened by the virus in the first place?

I see several countries held up as examples of what we should have done and hence why we f***ed up our response, when you look at the timelines what they did was more or less mirrored by us and the difference in outcome seems to be more to do with geography than anything else.

Anyone who resorts to violence just because they've been asked to stop in is a bit feeble, if you ask me.
What a disgraceful comment from somebody safely tucked away on a pension.

In the real world people and businesses are on their knees.

I feel really sorry for

anyone who has lost someone
Businesses
self employed
those who are lonely
those in care homes
the relatives of those in care homes
the youth of our Nation
People struggling mentally and physically
those with long COVID
and I could go on and it’s Worldwide

it is truly an unimagined thing that has hit the World.

I am glad I am not in charge

Good point about the youth of our nation Blood 👍
Must be seriously ** up their development, imagine being 15 to say, 21. No meeting girls (or boys), no boozing, no gigs, no sports activities.
Man, I couldnt do that at their age, it would have fucked me up.

I was thinking more of this sort of capability.

627000 contacts traced and actioned following an event on 31st Jan. Result: containment.

Interesting, essentially what they did was work out that the tourists went to tourist hot spots and then used mobile telephone data to work out who else was there and then send text messages, although it's not entirely clear to me what the text message told them to do, or how effective the text messages were.

My first thought is that the whole exercise could've been achieved simply by saying "anyone in xyz tourist hotspot on 31/1 please do this........"

I also note that the texts were sent out on the 7th so quite how effective that would've been at managing the spread of the virus after that delay is questionable.

Furthermore, AFAICS, there were no actual infections in Taiwan linked to the ship.

Finally, although the numbers involved were large the situation was fairly straightforward because only a small number of locations were involved, imagine instead that the ship was filled with Taiwan nationals, with maybe 300 of them infected, who then spread across the country and mixed with a large number of other people at many different locations infecting many more, the paper itself admits there's no way they could've traced that number of contacts using traditional methods.

I would have ignored the restrictions as much as I could but in fairness couldn't have opened a Pub that was shut. Imagine being 18-20 plus and not having any chance of having sex......some of these people must be going blind! 😳
