Dembele

Have we got an agreement to sign Dembele at the end of his loan period?

He has demonstrated already we should be looking to sign him permanently in the January transfer window.

He isn’t the finished article but he has significant potential and excites fans.

I’d love to see him join us permanently

Just wish Crich could play the same formation every week with Dembele playing as a free role behind the 2 front men.
Kick the ultra defending shit in to touch and stop talking about how great our opponents are in pre match interviews (excuses in early) show them no respect like Holloway did and let them see how good we are instead.

See you all at Portsmouth when we ruin their unbeaten run.

He'd definitely be a club record signing, at least 2 million for sure.

That said, he's obviously quality. Definitely has potential to play at the top level one day.

Does anyone know why he has been allowed to firstly leave Celtic and then be loaned to us. surely Celtic or Brest would have wanted to keep him ? and how much did Brest pay for him ?

Unfortunately we’ve no chance, firstly we couldn’t afford the fee and secondly his salary!
Same as Patino, Morgan, Poveda and Florini last season- all out of reach for little old Blackpool.
Pity, but at least we can loan players of this class for a season

Yes I’ve been wondering what Brest paid for him . Maybe nowt was he released ? Why did he go there of all places ?

Don’t take this as gospel, but my Celtic supporting boss reckoned that he has a series of injuries. Was surprised when he saw him playing for us

Brest got him on a free transfer. Must have a great midfield if he can't get in it.
I just don’t get how he slipped under the radar .
His brother is well known and he was widely reported in the press to be the next big thing .
Maybe they offered him big money ?

Gazette quoted £500,000 on its website last week - could be realistic for a player (relatively) untested at a higher level. Unlikely he would want to play at this level again next year so promotion would be our only chance...

Praise must be given to recruitment team for getting him here. My only fear is other clubs will be sniffing round now. Would be a great feeling of intent if we could sign him permanently.

Slightly off topic from the OP but Brest are not a big team. Was having a look at them. Their new stadium is seriously funky, relatively small though at 15k capacity. Looking at their results was surprised dembele can't get into their team

Not sure why some people would think he’s in the £2m-£3m class? 🤷‍♂️

He went to Brest on a free transfer.
He chose to leave at the end of his contract I think. Mid contract is very different.

We have zero chance of signing him IMO. If he returned to the UK he would get bigger offers from clubs higher up.

I’ve seen enough to believe that anything under 1m would be a steal for that player.
Not sure how likely it is to happen though.

For various family reasons I keep track of Stade Brestois from a distance.

They are a bit of a yo-yo club, though they are doing very well this year.

They have had some fantastic talent in the past; Ginola, Ribery, a few others.

The French leagues aren't exactly competitive outside of the CL places, but Brestois have struggled to stay in Ligue 1 over the long term, mainly due to their finances. They're a selling club, you'd say. They have a deal and permission to build an incredible new stadium, which seems to have hit the buffers and I don't think any work has been started on it. If they could get it built, that would send them them into a different place financially, but for now they very much struggle.

Their club record signing was about £5m, which gives you an idea of their size; similar to most Championship clubs. One of the posters above mentioned that they must have a lot of great midfielders if they can let Dembele go -- and that is the case! They picked up a player from Norwich in the summer who is having a blinder, and they have a Del Castillo on the wing who is an absolute Rolls-Royce. They are a selling club though, they let one of their other good wingers whose name I forget move to Germany for £8m in the last window.

Short version: Dembele will be for sale for the right price, and I suspect that may be lower than we think. Whether he would want to go from French L1 to England League One is another matter.

His creativity really helps Dougall who is our best player as he can do his own work rather than having to carry the entire midfield.

It makes Dembele's contribution bigger than what he does himself.

It's the closest to complimentary skills I've seen since the Vaughan/Southern/Adam holy trinity which is the best Blackpool midfield I've seen.

We just need to kick on.

He’ll be worth a couple mill at least, and probably got his sights set on bigger things. We should just enjoy having him here this season!

I think we should continue to take him off 60/70 mins till Jan then others may shy away if they think he can’t do 90. Get him bought then Brest don’t want him. A joy to watch however long he is on the pitch.

As ever, do we the cash available to buy him in Jan?
I suppose if SS thinks we can get a 4 year deal done and look to sell him on then maybe worth stretching the budget.
