Demitri Mitchell

Was excellent towards the end of last season and, apparently, in pre-season before his injury.

There was a game either late last season or early this where the opposition were so scared of him they were fouling him in our half to stop him getting away. Quality player when on form.

The lad has made 1 mistake whilst playing for us, from what I can recall. Unless it’s ridiculous money being offered we shouldn’t be selling him.
Think it was Stoke at home this year

I felt for him after the Boro howler but as he hasn’t had a stand out game (or even moment - someone might correct me there) then I’d say take the money and add it to the transfer kitty.
His nearest for a standout moment is the cross at Wembley for Dougalls second goal. And in all honesty, it bounced twice and Lincoln should have easily dealt with it (sorry Demi)
I'm sure the budget is down to the financial limitations of our owner, exacerbated by Covid losses, the huge expense of seeing off the Oystons and repairing all the damage, and the not insignificant cost of disastrous signings like Lubala and Nuttall. The fact we are still pushing forward, improving infrastructure and the squad, is testament to Sadler's commitment, but he is not a bottomless pit. Very few individuals can put many millions into a football club. The ones who can tend to be Russian, Middle Eastern or American. Chinese maybe.

First team wise we have not lost anybody who really matters yet other than to injury .We may lose Bowler but Critch is determined that we will leave the January window stronger than we entered it. And we won't sell bowler unless it suits us, given all the parameters, I believe.
Bang on !

yeah, didn't realise he was that old.
But then he’s had injury issues and has lost development years.

Current state of affairs, we need to retain players until the summer. Mitchell has let us down once, and contributions such as at Sheffield United, where he made a huge difference, have easily been forgotten.

He’s a player who will never shine, but currently he’s an asset to the squad. Can he improve with regular game time, for me yes.

I don’t think we’ll be happy to lose him so I imagine if this happens if would have to be a decent 6 figure fee. He’s not irreplaceable but replacing him would cost decent money. I also think he’s a good player with more to come, even though we’ve not seen much this season.
I'd snatch their hand off for 100K.

The bloke behind me in the North Stand is going to be well happy that my bi weekly tourettes has not kicked in when Demi cuts inside and fires 50 yards over the bar for the umpteenth time this season...

I'm not bothered about his mistake, all players make them so that's not even a consideration for me. We are short on players at the moment due to injuries so no doubt he's an asset to the squad as it stands but for me, as you say, he will never shine. And to even maintain the level we are at we need to keep progressing and in that context. I'd say it's only a matter of time [next season] before he's not involved in the match day squad.

We might. Kirk could be lined up for example.
Well possibly, but we'd need a replacement for each lined up rather than just one I think.

On the subject of Kirk, I'm really surprised he didn't get a championship move in the summer, he was a real standout at Crewe imo, even above Dale and Wintle. He'd be a good signing I think.

Dale won all the player of the season stuff. But I saw hardly anything of Crewe last season, just the two games against is on ifollow. They seem to produce technically very proficient players who are physically light. Good side to watch, not physically strong enough to compete higher up.

"Maloney played down talk linking Hibs with a move for former Hearts loanee Demetri Mitchell, adding: “He's still a Blackpool player so I wouldn't want to speak about that just yet.”

Not an idle rumour then, they're definitely after him.

That’s the concern with Dale…

He’s the same height and similar physique to Keshi, who has been strong, has great balance and can shrug off a challenge. So it’s not all about size, although I do think a lot of championship sides have those big, powerful athletic players, who just seem to brush players like Dale aside.

Maybe feed him on raw meat for a while and get him in the Gym 😂

Keep him in the gym and lob the meat through a hatch.

I like Demi and have since I first saw him as a full back. Our business model is to develop young gifted players, which involves giving them chances. Jerry did not hit the ground running, needed time to acclimatise and get his confidence. I feel Demi is similar, yet because of others available, he has been made a fill in or sub.

If we are to stick with the business model, our fans need to develop a bit of patience and allow players to develop, not write them off for one error. We cannot afford to buy the talent needed to survive at this level, we need to bring it on.

Patience, my little Tangerines

very good post and observation. The higher up you go the more you need the physical attributes and athleticism to cope with the demands. It's the exception to the rule with the lighter weight players who make it to the top.

Football is a combination of technique, pace, strength and awareness/intelligence, combined into team tactics.

Look at the players at Liverpool, City and Chelsea, for example. They almost universally combine all these things. In different ratios obviously. Pace and Technique can reduce the need for strength but you still need to be able to hold off challenges and cope with the physical demands.

I made that observation when talking about the Youth team on another thread. However there are still plenty of very good smaller players around so its not quite the exception to the rule.
