To actually pass a ball forward rather than the usual backwards pass to a colleague that has just given him the ball. It serves no technical purpose and only exemplifies the total lack of skill he actually has. His assist and goal scoring ratio, even for a defensive midfielder, especially in free scoring club and International sides is abysmal. Motivationally he’s good and that’s why he’s won so much with Liverpool, but there has been and is far better players than Hendo especially at International level.

Mike Brearley in cricket won plaudits as England captain, but he wasn’t a particularly good cricketer in the sides he played in. Henderson is the same.

He is a defensive midfielder that cant tackle and goes missing against good opposition and thats a fact .He is brilliant at pointing then passing it pointlessly back to the player he received it from giving him good stats .Just watch him from this prospective and you will realise what an average player he is .Liverpools midfield has been the worst for decades and carried by the front players thus the reason he plays .

But that’s half the point - his aren’t even that good they usually are about 10m. Henderson is a cut above with his motivational skills which obviously Klopp and useless Southgate appreciate. But he is not a particular good footballer. Pundits regularly make excuses for him.
To be perfectly fair to him, since Southgate has played him in a more advanced role, he has improved slightly. It’s no coincidence that Klopp is now buying young skilful midfielders. I think Hendo’s time has come.

Of course his time's come. Just like any other player or athlete for that matter. It's called father time and it catches up with anyone.
I just hope he's careful not to injure his back as he walks off in to the sunset carrying his huge medal and trophy haul.

You don't play as a top league and international player by just being motivational. You also don't mention his ability to pick a pass, tackle and also make assists and goals.
Some people only see what they want to see... 😉

I did check his stats before I posted, and I stand by what I said, as a defensive midfielder, he’s got stats most professionals would dream of having over a career.
None so blind as those that can’t see. Or those stuck on the same agenda, tongue in cheek or not 👍

As I intimated before, he has been part of a Liverpool side that for several years has been free scoring, and Hendersons stats are frankly embarrassing, as is his contribution in an England side. A professional might be jealous of the trophies he has somehow managed to acquire by being part of the team, but his technical record is way below average, and even more so with the point I made before.

Blindness isn't the issue its fans being blinkered that is, or willing to accept mediocrity as the norm.

As Ive repeated several times Lytham, Henderson cannot be faulted for his inspiration he gives to younger players and motivation on the pitch. Klopp obviously values that highly and has gained success because of his decision.

Likewise Southgate has openly stated the value of his 'presence' in the team/squad.

Neither have creamed themselves over his football ability, and it's no coincidence that in his tenure at Liverpool, no team has publicly gone for him in the transfer window. Brendan Rodgers famously wanted him transferred, but to Hendersons credit he stuck it out.

Sometimes the Hendersons of the world don't need to be good footballers in order to succeed as they have other qualities needed by a team. Nobby Stiles was such a player, not skilful at all but valued by Ramsey and Busby for his contributions.

It's surprising with the amount of Flac I get on this Forum, how many actually agree with me. My opinion is he is one of the most overrated players ever, and I mean ever, to wear an England shirt and although I can't stick the Scousers, likewise.

Surprisingly many posters never address the points raised about his technical ability but bleat on about how many trophies he's won without substantiating anything about his skill set.Its an opinion led Forum so everyones entitled to one including me.

You and Ted should get together and discuss how poor Southern was for us along with how Henderson being a glorified team cheer leader managed to earn them a living as footballers. 👍
