I left here when I was 24 and came back when I was 72, having spent the previous 30 down south. Weirdly, I still can’t get used to lunch being called dinner and dinner being called tea.

What do you call them?

Always had that argument when I was there, no, they call them dinner ladies, serving lunch

Breakfast, dinner and tea but its changing, I'm probably in a minority now. I think most up here go with breakfast, lunch and tea.
Christmas Dinner and Sunday dinner are always called that by me although some people up here call those lunch as well these days!
Not as northern as we used to be!!

Growing up in the North West it was always breakfast, dinner and tea (supper rarely happened in our house).
Since moving Down Under over 20 years ago it's always breakfast, lunch and dinner (supper sometimes). There's also morning smoko and arvy smoko.....

But they pronounce supper differently as well, it sounds like sapper.

We lived 'Down South' for 25 years or so.
Dinner, wherever we were, has always been the main meal of the day whether it was midday or evening.

This is how the Victorians ate. High tea would be a meal served with tea around 5pm. It was the time when young people would eat their main meal. Dinner would be taken later in the evening by adults. Over time the main meal began to be taken when people finished work therefore "high tea" becoming "tea".

So technically neither is wrong. Both are main meals however "tea" is done at the time "high tea" used to be taken and dinner remains the same albeit later in the evening.
