And if they've got a ST and a new kit already it's £125 or are you suggesting the club do it for free?but costing more like £250 by the time you have bought tickets and kit etc its a lot for the poorer families

no but a more reasonable cost of £50 which is what most kids birthday present would beAnd if they've got a ST and a new kit already it's £125 or are you suggesting the club do it for free?
Get real. To some families £125 can buy clothes, food, heating and decent bedding. I really am disappointed by some of the replies on this thread.

OK - and here's an AVFTT rarity - I have been convinced by this thread that the mascot package is good value. There, I've said it.It's a decent price. Good value imo.
Whether you can afford it is a different question.
Flaunting one's wealth is never a good look.£50
I was getting more than that in 1980's.
They get a kit kat which is almost the same thing. They don’t get a kit
Wealth we didn't have hardly had a pot to piss in when growing up but my parents worked hard and saved to buy me that £100 bike etc.Flaunting one's wealth is never a good look.
These are your assumptions of what others have said or think rather than the actuality.Wealth we didn't have hardly had a pot to piss in when growing up but my parents worked hard and saved to buy me that £100 bike etc.
The ridiculous notion that a kids present is £50 in 2023 and that's how we should base our mascot packages is unbelievable.
That's fair comment and why BST and others give away packages.OK - and here's an AVFTT rarity - I have been convinced by this thread that the mascot package is good value. There, I've said it.
What has got me a bit 'high-horsey' is that when I've questioned the price in the context of many people not being able to afford it whilst still wanting to be fans I've been met with dismissive suggestions that such people should not go to matches or should just be grateful that they can put food on the table. And, of course, there has been the, "they can afford to get sloshed and buy fags" nonsense.
At the end of the day my point is that I am keen to see that the poorer people in our town are catered for and not made to feel excluded from following our football club.
That's a very fair deal imo.I guess it's best if the kids join the Junior Seasiders for £10.
Then they get to go events where they can meet the players and also have a chance at being a mascot too.
... you talk there about poorer people @1966_and_all_that - I wouldn't put myself in that category as I earn decent money .. however we have 3 kids, have a mortgage, have to pay for school uniforms etc etc etc .. and I would have to think twice about shelling out £125 for one of the kids (and if you give it one they all want it) to walk out on the pitch and shake hands with a few players!OK - and here's an AVFTT rarity - I have been convinced by this thread that the mascot package is good value. There is a study that now categorises people in new groups rather than the old A-E socio-economic categories. One of them describes people who are relatively well-off financially but whose living standards are limited by having to support other family members. Typically this is very old relatives and young adult children requiring mortgage support. I think you make a very valid point.... you talk there about poorer people @1966_and_all_that - I wouldn't put myself in that category as I earn decent money .. however we have 3 kids, have a mortgage, have to pay for school uniforms etc etc etc .. and I would have to think twice about shelling out £125 for one of the kids (and if you give it one they all want it) to walk out on the pitch and shake hands with a few players!
One's good value for money, the other's a replica kit. They get a kit kat which is almost the same thing.

As has been stated BST's lottery pays for a mascot at every gameThis is a really sad thread. Whichever system/cost there are always going to be some disappointed kids. It just highlights that for some kids they will grow up with a life full of disappointments, none of which they have any control over because the only requirement is affordability.
Do we know for sure that the club don’t already give some packages possibly on the quiet to avoid embarrassment? I keep thinking back to that 35k fine. The things that could have been used to fund. Maybe the perpetrators could club together to buy a couple of packages as a kind of penance.

It's a fair and interesting point Loco. You don't have to be a BST member to join the 1953 Sweepstake. Are you a BST member or Sweepstake subscriber? Are all BST lottery subscribers members? Isn't BST a community benefit organisation? Maybe half going to the community would be in keeping with this?
