Disappointed in these mascot packages

Get real. To some families £125 can buy clothes, food, heating and decent bedding. I really am disappointed by some of the replies on this thread.

It's a decent price. Good value imo.

Whether you can afford it is a different question.

OK - and here's an AVFTT rarity - I have been convinced by this thread that the mascot package is good value. There, I've said it.

What has got me a bit 'high-horsey' is that when I've questioned the price in the context of many people not being able to afford it whilst still wanting to be fans I've been met with dismissive suggestions that such people should not go to matches or should just be grateful that they can put food on the table. And, of course, there has been the, "they can afford to get sloshed and buy fags" nonsense.

At the end of the day my point is that I am keen to see that the poorer people in our town are catered for and not made to feel excluded from following our football club.

Flaunting one's wealth is never a good look.
Wealth we didn't have hardly had a pot to piss in when growing up but my parents worked hard and saved to buy me that £100 bike etc.

The ridiculous notion that a kids present is £50 in 2023 and that's how we should base our mascot packages is unbelievable.

These are your assumptions of what others have said or think rather than the actuality.

That's fair comment and why BST and others give away packages.

... you talk there about poorer people @1966_and_all_that - I wouldn't put myself in that category as I earn decent money .. however we have 3 kids, have a mortgage, have to pay for school uniforms etc etc etc .. and I would have to think twice about shelling out £125 for one of the kids (and if you give it one they all want it) to walk out on the pitch and shake hands with a few players!

There is a study that now categorises people in new groups rather than the old A-E socio-economic categories. One of them describes people who are relatively well-off financially but whose living standards are limited by having to support other family members. Typically this is very old relatives and young adult children requiring mortgage support. I think you make a very valid point.

This is a really sad thread. Whichever system/cost there are always going to be some disappointed kids. It just highlights that for some kids they will grow up with a life full of disappointments, none of which they have any control over because the only requirement is affordability.
Do we know for sure that the club don’t already give some packages possibly on the quiet to avoid embarrassment? I keep thinking back to that 35k fine. The things that could have been used to fund. Maybe the perpetrators could club together to buy a couple of packages as a kind of penance.

As has been stated BST's lottery pays for a mascot at every game
Some go to nominations by members ( but it's not expensive to join ) and others to Homestart to allocate to those they consider deserving
Ryan Powell did something similar
So there are options
Maybe join the BST lottery if you haven't already done so to help fund more https://www.blackpoolsupporterstrust.com/copy-of-fundraising-landing-page

Are all BST lottery subscribers members? Isn't BST a community benefit organisation? Maybe half going to the community would be in keeping with this?
It's a fair and interesting point Loco. You don't have to be a BST member to join the 1953 Sweepstake. Are you a BST member or Sweepstake subscriber?

BST's purpose encompasses, fans, club and community. Finding that right balance in terms of rights and support is fundamental. The balance of the money that the 1953 Sweepstake earns goes out in prizes to keep it attractive to join. One thing I do know, every kid that has come via the 53 Sweepstake, whether they were lucky in the monthly draw of members,or nominated through Homestart and other charity routes, has the day of their young lives. I don't know Ryan Powell but his initiative looks to do a great job as well. Some incredibly generous local people and businesses have also anonymously funded mascot packages for the disadvantaged. The hope is to build this funding route so at least one disadvantaged kid can have that day to remember every home game.

It,'s not been an easy year or two but BFC fans and local businesses continue to be generous.
