First of all a number of supporters booing the team and shouting rubbish as they walked off at half time. This is in the West stand by the way near to half way line. Then following Bowler being substituted, you could see how upset HE was as he had just missed that opportunity to score. He was getting himself a bottle of water just in the Blackpool technical area when this Pool supporter went right up to the barrier where he was and totally lambasted him, pointing his finger at him. What on earth is all that about ?
Then at full time apart from even more booing, another so called fan sitting in L block began being verbally abusive to Simon Sadler. He was shouting to Sadler swearing and telling him in no uncertain terms what he thought of Michael Appleton. You could see that Sadler was quite shocked and upset by this idiot and at one point Sadler himself tried to respond but was coaxed away by his family and friends.
A reality check is needed here. Appleton would not have been my choice as manager but we are where we are and he should be given the opportunity to put his own team together. The current squad are adapting to a completely new system and style of play. When Critchley took charge he did exactly the same. The players for those early weeks and months struggled to adapt and understand what was required of them. These things take time.
Appleton has also been disadvantaged by a number of transfer targets that haven’t come off for reasons we don’t really know. This is not his fault. Today’s game could have been so different. After an uninspiring first half even though we created a couple of opportunities we more than matched the opposition who didn’t really threaten our goal. Second half was much improved, faster pace, more pressing and we played some decent stuff. Had Jerry put the spot kick away, it might have been a different story. We had by far the better opportunities in the second half and missed a couple of chances whilst we were on top.
I like most of our supporters see the problems we have and areas that need strengthening but let’s give the man a chance. I am as frustrated as anybody but some fans really need to give their heads a wobble and some should hang their heads in shame. Our players give their all from what I have seen and like our owner do not deserve to be subjected to such vitriolic hate that I personally witnessed today.
