Dobbies future?

Reading todays Gazette interview/article on Dobbie it seems clear he is keen and ambitious for the future. I hope SS and the club don’t live to regret the missed opportunity of promoting him to manager.
Maybe though he’s a fall back option should things go awry?

He's only been in charge of the development team for a year, possibly a bit early to be moving up to the top job.

Those 6 games have obviously whetted his appetite and he'll be itching to be in charge of a first team. Makes sense for him to learn from NC for a while but hell surely have an eye on vacancies in northern England and Scotland.

QOTS have been a bit rubbish for a while. Sooner or later that job will come up if they're not flying in SFL 1
Nailed on their next manager. QOS slipped out the Championship into Scottish League 1 a year ago, last season in league 1 started badly and their manager was potted, the new manger Marvin Bartley was appointed in January and got them going in the right direction in second half of season. The expectation will be for them to be challenging at top end this coming season so pressure will be on, if they get off to a bad start SD will be the obvious choice to replace. To be fair it would be a good first job for him and I think he will do well, he’s loved up there and will get a lot of support and slack if needed.
A future BFC manager, quite possibly!

Too low a level IMO, I don't see what it gets him.

A CV.

Fergie's first job was East Stirling was it not? Jack Ross (ok, not a managerial giant, but someone firmly established on the UK gaffer merry-go-round) started at Alloa. I'm sure I can think of others who started out at that level.

Queens are a decent little club. Get them flying and you'll get noticed.

Granted, things are changing and you might also get noticed doing development work these days but there's also the perennial caveat that development football isn't truly about competition and more about moulding players.

Meanwhile rigid 442, 2 DM & a couple of non descript no.2's who stroked NC's ego previously without positive results & same as at QPR.
Wonder if the ST sales thread would have been higher & more positive with Dobbs in charge & a proven sidekick. Really want to be proved wrong but not getting a large one about this season.

I think Dobbs would have been an easier sell. Whether Critch and his youth club buddies are the right move for footballing reasons only time will tell but on a purely marketing level, Dobbs, his attacking style and the idea of a new start would be very appealing.

Of course, the club shouldn't appoint on marketing logic because therein lies football madness but I, for one, was certainly excited at the prospect of the Dobbster.

He’s at Blackpool at the minute… He’ll either stay here or he’ll go. If he goes, we’ll replace him.

Jack Ross started as assistant at Dumbarton, with a spell as caretaker, they were second flight at the time, as were Alloa when he took over there.

He might as well take on a NL side and save on the travelling.

I’m sure the Dobster would have brought in an experienced coach, maybe somebody who has played a few professional games in his time.

Pretty straightforward drive to Dumfries, easier than a lot of drives to NL sides unless you are alluding to him taking over at Fylde... .

I see two major problems:
  • QoTS puts him in the Scottish League structure, so the logical next move from there is Scottish Championship and if he's lucky, SPL, so further and further away from home;
  • SL1 is below NL standard, in fact I think some of the clubs there would struggle at NPL level, so the options in non-league are wider than you suggest.

I think it depends on a few things
1. How involved he is in the first team day to day and how much Critch allows him in to his inner sanctum
2. Whether Sadler is paying him a decent wedge as Development Manager
3. Whether his Missus is happy on the Fylde Coast or if she'd be up for a move
4. How quickly Critchley moves on (or is moved on!) again!

No.1 especially i think. I hope they work closely rather than two separate entities. And i hope Dobbs influences our attacking set up.
