Does anyone think we let Uncle Richard go too early.

I definately think we miss him...We have a relatively young back four and I know Marvin is coming on leaps and bounds but you cant beat an experienced old head...We are creating chances and scoring goals again but the goals are flowing at the wrong end as well.
Kudos to Appleton as well as he recognised Williams was having a shocker and hauled him off.
If you watch Williams for the first goal...he was ambling back trying to claim offside when for a young man he should have been busting a gut to defend the cross.
Anyone for 3-3 against Blackburn.

No. Very likeable bloke. But is getting on and the slowest player I ever saw. Arrived as a bit of a joke. Turned into a bit of a Legend. Gone early. Before his status with the fans went back down. He would have been run rings round a few times in the season. To be cruel, He was not our future.

No - but we urgently need to replace him with an experienced leader in defence.
I agree with your comments re Williams - us two said exactly the same about the goal.
I was taught "have no regrets when you come off the pitch". Williams switched off & I'm sure he'll have learnt a valuable lesson from the Bristol game.

I noticed Ipswich are joint top of League One. Not sure how much mad Uncle Richard has been playing but he will be a positive influence for sure

Just checked and Keogh wasn't in the squad on Saturday so must be injured. In that case we made the right decision!

Do you give a squad place to a 36 year old who is often injured? Experience is good but we need it on the pitch really.

Williams got a knock, that’s why he came off

Keogh had a galvanising effect on the defence both positionally and communication wise. We have missed that experience. I have been a little underwhelmed with Rhys Williams, to be honest, I was expecting more defensively he doesn't seem to see danger quickly enough and as a result gets out of position or loses his man.

Yes we miss him but he wanted to move on so fair do's.

I think, in retrospect, Keogh was only ever going to be with us for a season. He was great and important to us so, thank you uncle Richard.

We are always likely to make defensive mistakes, and I would say the Mad Uncle Richard made as many if not more than our other defenders. I never really took to him as a player, he often played way too deep, was often caught out positionally and had the pace of aging cart horse with a particularly burdensome load. However i think his enthusiasm for the game was a big impact on the squad, the sheer joy in which he seemed to play the game, that impact I think is quite a big miss.

Williams is young but looks like a very good player, had an off day against Brizzle, but we have Jordan Thorniley who i think is vastly under-rated, and a couple of others who are reliable if not spectacular, and frankly spectacular defenders is frankly asking for trouble. Last year there wasn't a single team in the championship that wasn't prone to possession gaffs in defence, and from what we have seen so far it doesn't seem to be much different this year.

even Liverpool and Man city get caught out occasionally.

At this early stage its upto the coaches to work with Williams if there are any issues in his game that need attention I'm sure MA
will look to solve them.

really disagree with that first para. His positional sense and reading of the game was exceptional and that more than made up for his lack of pace. He certainly made no more mistakes than any other player in our defence.

No. Williams and Marv are better. Let’s stop having a go at Williams for his one poor game as he has been great otherwise.
Not really seen enough of him yet. Well actually at the game as I’ve been away. I’ll look out against T’Rovers on Wednesday.

Was worried about it a bit from an organisational / team spirit sense but I haven't seen many signs that it's hurt us so far. Have to remember we are playing a slightly more expensive game now so will likely concede more regardless.
