Dom Thompson to FGR on Loan

Knowing his luck he'll turn up there for the unveiling with a bag of KFC.

If ever a player needs a run of games to try and get going it's this lad. I think Forest Green have switched to a back four since we played them and Troy Deeney took over so he shouldn't have the same workload if he's sat in at left back with a winger in front.
He had poor games under Appleton too. He wasn't convincing at Championship level (Ok quite a few of our players weren't either) and From what I've seen he always has at least one big mistake in him each game. Lost his head away at Shef. Utd last season too, being petulant and got himself sent of stupidly.
He was actually ok until that sending off. It did him no good at all. Loved him winding up the qpr fans at Loftus Rd. He needs to focus his boundless enthusiasm and he'll do ok.

Good luck to the lad but on top of the mistakes he's a hot head,at Morecambe in a poxy friendly he was lucky to stay on the pitch with his stupidity and some of his flying challenges have my heart in my mouth.
You can't get away with that anymore twice against Forrest Green in the Fa Cup he makes a fully committed challenge, was very lucky with the timing half a second later and the player would have been took out and yellow/off.

Then he goes out on loan to them. 😀

Good athlete, terrible footballer with the worst decision making. Morecambe pre season did one of the worst tackles I’ve ever seen. Critchley clearly agrees, can’t be trusted

Good luck to him. Listened to Radio Lancs the other night and obviously the lad is low on confidence so this will hopefully help him and us

Probably for the best as he's scapegoat number one from our clueless fans and the manager doesn't appear to give him a chance or consecutive matches to prove himself

Far too good for league 2 imo

And yet no side outside of those no hopers would take him. Makes you wonder.

It seems obvious to me that his problem is just in his head. To me, he clearly has footballing ability, clearly has athletic ability and clearly gives 100% all the time. He's the only player I've ever seen celebrate winning a throw in like it was a last minute winner - and I suspect that might be his problem - he's trying so hard he looks like a coiled spring to me, and anyone who's ever done any competitive sport knows that this is not a good thing. When you're that desperate to do well a mistake is often round the corner.

I hope the spell at FGR goes well and he comes back looking like a new player. Seems to have worked for Casey. Good luck Dom!

Appleton doesn't have the greatest judgement though. I like him as a player, but every time he plays he does something stupid, twice on Wednesday, one of which cost us a goal.
He wasn't an Appleton player though, he was identified by the recruitment team when Critchley was still with us so he would have been here whatever. I am glad that lot got cleared out, I thought they were useless.

FGR seem to have made some bold / foolish management appointments this season, so it will be interesting to see what this loan spell does for DT's confidence and development.

I wish him the best of luck !

He‘s a very keen, fit, enthusiastic, forward thinking player with lots of ability …….. he’s just prone to the odd mistake in defensive situations …… and he’s been costly !

Appleton said that he was aware of him from his loan spells and has everything he wants in a full back. He bigged him up and was very keen on him. Absolutely clueless.

It's a good move for him really, lesser opposition and a fresh chance to show what he can do and build confidence.

He's got all the attributes but the mistakes just seemed to hit him hard and he kept making them.

You can learn over time but some players judgement is just better than others. At this time his judgement isn't there for us.

His level, good player, bundle of energy blah blah, he has been terrible for us, and the fact FGR are the ones who got him says it all.

I agree, he’d done alright until that. As others have said, good athlete, but not sure of the leveller of footballer there - I think some of the bad challenges and losing his head are down to frustration with his limitations. He should he a decent league one defender, but needs a rebuild with confidence and getting the simple things right.

For Critchley it obviously was and after a full pre-season yet deciding to start the season with Callum Connolly at left wing back instead.

Basically kept it professional until he was able to move him on. But if ever a move shouted I'VE NO PLANS FOR YOU JUST GO it was the other night when he put him at left centre half and then left him out on the pitch hobbling about.
Is that reasonable behaviour?

Well I'd never seen him play left centre half before. And it wasn't too long after he couldn't stretch enough to make a headed clearance and Burton ended up scoring.

Me personally I wouldn't put a player in that position and when they're struggling but I'm not badged up.

Hopefully for him he can get a fresh start with FGR now.

I agree. There's a decent player in there, otherwise Brentford wouldn't have signed him. Dom just needs the right coach and mentor.
It was funny though watching him take a throw in & forgetting to let go of the ball. Both them ended up on the pitch!
Good luck Dom.
Agree to yours and Phil’s comments.

He’s a confidence player and he needs to go somewhere where he can get that back. A decent run of matches where he could shine may help that. Time will tell, but I hope he proves some wrong.

Great athlete but definitely still very raw as a footballer and we need our WB’s to be quite disciplined and to be able to read the game well. A loans a good opportunity for the lad to learn and it certainly doesn’t mean his career here is over.

As far as I am aware he was an Apples pick

Doesn’t bode well?

In fairness Coulson was blowing out of his arse after 50 mins today. He will need to work on his fitness

According to the BBC DT was playing on the left of a front three in a 4-3-3 for Forest Green today. Better that than as a left back or central defender I suppose.

Absolute garbage he was. Feel really bad for Forest Green fans.

He actually got MOTM today. I don’t know what TD said to him pre-match but he was certainly fired up. Definitely looked better up front than he did in defence. Up until the sending off FGR were doing ok, I can see him playing every game for them, but not sure if he will be able to help keep them up.

Interesting Gabriel was checking if he played in the club video - seems a popular lad even if he didn’t perform on the pitch.

Further to my earlier post on this I see the manager hanging out other young players to dry. There are better clubs to do loan business with.

I can’t ever get out my head that McAtee goal at home last year.

Any ‘defender’ that lets someone run the whole length of the pitch without tackling him is not a defender and has rocks for brains for me.

Hope the move works out but glad we’ve got rid.
He ran down our right from the halfway line and Grimshaw gave him the whole goal to aim for

Not sure how it was just the fault of our left back

It was our corner, he was last man… it was brainless defending.

Now we leave that to CJ who I’d trust more which is a big shout I know.

CJ actually does pretty well defensively. Rarely gets beaten due to his pace.

Infact that's probably why he's not dropped as easily despite some mixed performances or at times comical control mishaps.

He's our last man we leave back for corners, we don't have a lot of pace especially at the back.

There was one moment 2nd half on Sat where he completely cut out on of their counters brilliantly.
