Dom Thompson

He's still developing. His mistakes should get fewer as he gets older / has more experience.
Let's give him a chance.
So, if he can eradicate one problem per week in training, by the time he reaches his 52nd birthday, there'll be absolutely nothing for us to worry about ... And, if that's not giving him a chance, I don't know what is.

I seem to remember DT and CJ being a highly dynamic combination last season. Hopefully Critch sees things similarly.

Having seen him today I can confirm we’ve had a good old search and sadly that good player is not in there .. sorry to disappoint!
I always love the blind optimism of fans who are confident every player will come good but as we've seen over the years, not all of them do or ever will and sadly I do believe that is the case with Thompson - he reminds me of Charles Dunne.

He played no better or worse than anyone else yesterday and by all accounts was MOTM in the friendly the other week. I don't get this clamour to (unfairly imo) ruin the young lad who clearly gives his all - to gain a few internet points amongst fellow internet chumps. It's pathetic.

In fairness, Dunne is still in the Scottish Prem and has been since 2017. He was absolutely shocking for us though.

He was our worst player on the pitch by quite a distance

I think there's a good player in there somewhere.
Working with Critch on his distribution and cutting out silly mistakes, he could become a real "diamond".
He's young, speedy and energetic.
I'm interested to see how he is in 6 months.
IMO he is already good enough for most league 1 teams and has that energy to keep going for the full 90 plus minutes. And a plus point is that as well as his speed he really can leap like a salmon. I'm happy to see him as a starter at left back and Lyons at right back both bombing forward when they get the chance. Every player can improve a little and hopefully with critchley n co they will. UTMP!!!

Yeah, I think both him and Lyons would be better as wing backs in a 5-3-2.

Thompson has pace and can deliver a decent ball into the box but will no doubt benefit from some proper coaching this season.

It was blindingly obvious to anyone who watched us play last season that Thompson and the rest of the players we had would be better suited to playing 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 with wing backs. Appleton is a fool and never twigged that his lightweight midfield needed supporting from behind.

In the right formation I expect Thompson and Lyons to shine this season with less defensive responsibility so let’s see what happens.

If we’re to play 5 at the back which I don’t like myself then i wouldn’t want DT as first choice. Husband would be used in a 3 and Lyons at RWB at least until Gabriel is back.

Husband 29 league appearances in the promotion season. Shaky start 2 reds got better with coaching. 31 appearances in Championship season finished 16th. He's good enough for L1 clearly and Dom will likely improve with coaching and we need to give guys a chance IMO not write them off in pre season.

Thompson was playing very well until he lost his head unnecessarily and prior to that he fizzed a ball from the left to CJ on the right that didn’t leave the ground it was a brilliant pass of some 30-40 yards, and then he fucks up in a moment of madness that’s becoming all too familiar and costly!🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Husband played well tonight. DT less so but worth persisting with. Ridiculous post.
Didn’t play a decent ball forward all night. Lost count of how many times he gave it away. On Thompson, I think there’s a player in there but he needs better than Husband beside him. Ridiculous post.

Rubbish. Will be happy to see Husband, rightly, on the left of the back 3 come Burton.

" until he lost his head". That is his problem. What goes on between the ears is just as important as fitness, skill and technique. Cut our loses and get rid.

Oh another slate Dom post ffs. Clearly the scapegoat for some of our fans whenever he plays.
He will be fine for us in league 1. I don't get the pile on whenever he plays and blaming everything on him. He's made some rash decisions like pretty much everyone else but he's never been as bad as some make out he has.
Maybe supporting the kid rather than giving him sh1t all the time would help his confidence too.

Players commit sending off worthy offences from time to time , it can happen for a variety of reasons that can be forgiven if the player learns from it .What worries me about Thompson is he doesn’t seem to be learning. Time will tell.
